I think what the new rules and regulations shows is that you'll always have RB/Ferrari/Mercedes as top tier and battling out for championships, but it won't be repeats, three-peats, four-peats, etc. Because of more CFD and wind tunnel time, you're going to have an advantage the next season. Of course you can get lucky and keep making the best car but that's going to be hard to do when you're capped in resources.

Red Bull will likely win this year, but who knows how much improvement Ferrari or Mercedes will have.

Honestly, this results are a bit overstated to me. Account for the DNF's (and some lucky safety cars) and he's only shown to be decent while still having one of the fastest cars on the grid. I think this twilight stage will wear off and you'll see some not so desirable results from Rus especially when he and Ham get too close. The best thing he has going for him is that he is beating Ham (which doesn't really tell me that much anymore since his results are dismal). He is still nowhere near the pace, or talent of Max or Lec. I also think Per is a better driver too.

Since Ferrari has stumbled their way out of the championship I'm hoping Perez can get the win and keep the battle for 1st interesting. It could create some unexpected excitement if Verstappen had to deal with his own Rosberg situation.

If only they can improve their strategists’ and leadership competence. That’s would be bigger than any improvement they make to the car

Out of curiosity do they let people pay to drive these temporary street tracks while they are built?

Good question, I think some street tracks (monaco iirc) are open until the time of the event, so they open the track after practice and quali etc. But some might be fully blocked off for the week.

But it might be risky to have it opened to the public because one massive crash with alot of debris, oil, and track damage and it could delay the event.

It’d be cool if they kept the track up for a short while after the races happen for the general public to have a few track days. I’d drive my car up there just to be able do a few laps on this awesome track.

Montreal is opened to the public for free, however the caviot is you drive super slow around the track with others. There are days where you can walk, bike, run, roller blade the track too.

Otherwise if you want a proper track day you gotta go when they do open lapping (a car club rents it out etc) but at that point it's not going to be free. I don't think they'd ever risk a free open lapping track day around the time of the event, it would attract too many inexperienced people that might crash.

In Monaco the streets are open for all public the same evening of the Sunday race. Deconstruction of the F1 gear happens fast once the race ended. Roadies of teams are used to packing quickly to move all gear to the next race circuit. Rather quickly after the race you can already walk the circuit. In the evening all traffic is allowed again.

It's amazing to drive the streets and famous tunnel section with normal traffic on Sunday evening, as if nothing happened, knowing that F1 cars (already inside transport trucks in the meantime) were fighting at those very places earlier that day.

If the FIA bails out Mercedes with new regulations I cannot think of anything more outrageous for the sport (other than last lap hijinx during the last race of the year of course lol). That team dominated for eight years, and to even think they'd cut them some sort of break due to their f'up this year is unbelievable.

Raise the car height, there's your fix MB. Cya next year!

Yeah it would be quite unfair to the teams that have poured a lot of the limited budget into designing specific parts related to porpoising and dealing with the issue. Only to then set a minimum ride height.

Looks like it has already been blocked anyways by multiple teams.
https://www.planetf1.com/news/teams-...ising-changes/

Merc will probably continue to over exaggerate the issue. Just like a player flopping in a soccer game. I believe Toto now knows their design this year was a failure. Russell is getting the maximum out of the car.

Exactly - it's almost pathetic to see a giant fall so hard. The car isn't even a complete failure. RedBull and Ferrari just out-designed them on every front.

Some of ya'll brave predicting a win for LeClerc.

I can't imagine them not taking a 10 place grid penalty in Canada for a new PU.

What a strange team environment - if Lewis doesn’t perform well then the whole team can’t celebrate successes (bottas era and now Russell) what happens if Lewis signs up for another 2 years?

Seems logical that a talented Merc engineer may explore other options long term. Especially with RBR and VW entering the mix.

After parking the car, Russell looked for additional team members and saw no one. Unfortunate situation at that team.

"I’ve mentioned here before that one of my favourite quotes was by boxer Jack Dempsey, who once defined a champion as “somebody who gets up when they can’t.” I’m sure that Tyson Fury would be well able to explain exactly what that means.
And this season, we are watching Lewis having to do just that, with a car that is difficult and uncomfortable to drive. I’m not surprised that there are some within the F1 paddock who believe that he was ‘putting it on’ on Sunday night as he struggled to get out of his Mercedes after a strong drive to fourth place.
We’re all cynics to greater or lesser degrees, and you tend to pick and choose those whose words you tend to believe, and those whose you regard with, let’s say, a greater degree of caution. There have been champions in the past who liked to ham it up, and stress how hard it had all been, but I’ve never seen Lewis as one of them, nor as one who might act in certain ways for political gain."

I genuinely think that HAM suffers intense back pains from porpoising. IMHO no exaggeration/faking. Sufficient footage available showing that his body takes a serious beating on long straights with the W13. Same goes for RUS, though whose younger body seems to better cope with the discomfort (but who also indicated experiencing discomfort).

However, if any exaggeration of suffering would be involved for whatever reason (several competitors including his team mate RUS regularly outperforming HAM this 2022 season or Mercedes trying to induce FIA to change rules) it would be unsportsmanlike.
