As far as other great openers, 1988 Miami-FSU was a great one I was able to attend. Lots of hype even in the absence of social media, which did not yet exist.

Every school bend the academic qualification rule for varsity sports. They usually qualify the kid with a "learning disability" or throw summer tutoring to get the prereq classes done or even money at HS tutoring to ensure they meet the minimum SAT/ACT scores.
Hell, every school bend academic qualifications for people not in sports either. That's why guys like Jack Ma can't fucking get into Harvard Business School while some large alumni donor's kid is there in his place. (don't feel so bad for Jack, he's been asked to lecture at Harvard) I'm not saying athletes shouldn't get into Stanford or Northwestern or the likes, because college admissions at all levels (undergrad, graduate) considers a kid's overall body of work, not just academically. You think the child of a US President can't walk into their dad's alma mater b/c his SAT scores are too low? Of course if you want to be a surgeon, sure the overall body of work will principally be based on academics and research/volunteering experiences, but rules are bend all the time. School admissions sees it as, "what can the kid do for me after they graduate to make me look good or bring me more money?"

rule #1 of this thread is, you can't dump on other teams without letting people know who you root for. Glass houses and all. OP has always shown his true colors as a Noles fan, and while I dump on him a lot the last few years, the same shit cuts both ways when my team loses. So BlackJetE90, how many points has YOUR team scored in CFP games since inception of playoffs? B/C FSU has scored 20 points due to a banana peel incident and my Bucks scored 84 points, despite 0 points last year.

and that's what makes college football so fun. The fanbases are rabid haters of the other teams. Really, I don't hate the Noles. Out of the 3 Florida teams, I like the Noles the most. It's much easier to hate on the U and Gators. Btw, can the Gators field a full varsity team for their first game, b/c I'm pretty sure St. Thomas Aquinas can beat that team today with all those freshmen playing

any predictions for the Bama FSU game? Bama's offense is looking really good this year. In any case, if FSU wins, it'll set up a massive showdown in the ACC against Louisville and Clemson for the ACC title and a CFP spot. IMO, the Louisville game will be the game of the year in the ACC.
Note: Louisville v Clemson is week 3, so that might have sort out which FSU game will be more important (they're all important as you can't lose) for CFP implications.

Clemson and Louisville games will be huge as well. Both are must wins, but I really hope we can get some vengeance on Louisville. My night sweats haven't subsided since that last game. FSU 34 Bama 31. This will be one hell of a grind.

Looking at Bama's last few losses, one plan to beat them is to deal them blow by blow. There will be times when you fall behind, but the key thing is too keep up with them when they go up. All of Bama's losses has been 4th quarter games. Games that comes down to the final 10 minutes of the game.

one thing for sure, if you get Bama in a high scoring game, you stand a good chance of winning.

I assume you're talking about the Washington Huskies, if so yes, GO DAWGS.
We have a pretty easy schedule this year. I hope we play SC in the Pac 12 Championship game. I really don't see anyone else this year good enough but those two teams in the pac 12 good enough to compete with them yet. Curious what other people think about Washington this year? Maybe some SEC fans or big 10? |

Alabama still has an amazing defense and has tremendous backup talent for that front 7. Their offense has no shortage of talent either with returning running backs Damien Harris and Bo Scarbrough.
I just don't think FSU can't stop The Tide. Bama 35 FSU 14 |

Ohio St didn't look that good tonight. Actually looked less impressive than last year. Barret still struggling with accuracy and deep balls. I'm sure they will catch their stride in the Big 10 as the season goes on. |
