New C8 are nice and performance is crazy good bang for the buck, but def not as rare and special as an R8 and doesn't have a manual

Don't really need an insane HP 0-60 car as my M3P scratches that itch, just looking for a fun weekend car that will not lose much money on in the next 5 years or so....the R8 is the one car that might cost the most to maintain, but most likely be the one that appreciates in value in the next decade.
I realize this will be unpopular choice among the forum purist crowd, but if it were me I think I'd get a new C8. I have contemplated both choices (used R8 and new C8) and came to the conclusion "if" one could get (find) a base C8 - for at or near sticker price - it would be one helluva' bargain bang for the buck. Moreover, a used R8 is a little dated IMO from the perspective of technology. Don't get me wrong though, because I recognize the R8 (especially the later V10 variant) is also one helluva' capable car in almost any arena. However, the C8 lets you "laugh all the way to the bank", and if one were to purchase a new, base C8 at a decent price, the factory warranty provides some peace of mind. A low mileage, used C8, could also be considered IMO.

Why do you want to ruin your car with "technology"? Other than a reverse camera it is all a distraction more than a help.

What?

Have you ever owned a 911? I had 4 in a row 2 991.2 and 2 992's. Every single one of them had turbos. I had ZERO complaints with power delivery on any of them other than the GTS which I thought had the power band up to high. The sound of a 991.2 or 992 with sport cats made the turbos spool sing music to my ears.

I have a Carrera S 997, turbo charger free as baby jesus intended. Each to his own, for the street I want something I need to wring out, having all that bottom end feels a bit..... soulless.

We'll have to agree to disagree. The little turbos on the 991.2 give just the right amount of added low end torque but the engine still loves to rev. It feels very NA except with the ability to start really pulling away at 2k RPM.

For street driving I much prefer the little (ie: quick spool) turbo set up where you can use that extra torque carving 3rd gear corners, hitting traffic holes, on ramps, etc.

Thats exactly how I feel. I thought my 991.2 S was the most fun to drive. The 991.2 GTS was all mid and upper end power. Both of my 992 911's where simular to the 991.2 GTS. The base 992 911 was fun to drive too. It wasnt powerful enough for me. But it sure was fun keeping those baby snails spooling entering 3rd!

991.2 S was the perfect to me.

The r8 is the only “special” car you’ve listed.

I agree, although all are great cars, the R8 is by far the rarest of the bunch and it is special.

My understanding is that Audi added reinforcements after 2009, and that it's quite rare overall. Some owners have added preventative welds, etc., however.

Never had an American car and never liked Corvettes but will have one, C8 Z06 or ZR1. I don't care one bit about that Euro thing and the testing shows the C8 bests the best that Europe has to offer. I don't particularly like its style but I never bought cars solely just because of their looks ever.

Actually just looked at cars again since I'm starting a big project soon and will need a third car while I have my E82 locked up in my work space for a long time.

My list is similar to yours. I have no desire for a zupra after driving one. Hate the c8 rear end so that's out.

No particular order for me, but my top two are top two tied so maybe there IS an order

Definitely the V8 R8. Perfect antidote for your other car, I think you will find it therapeutic.
