Once the range is improved and there are more charging stations.

For me at least, I find them to be great cars, if shopping in its class (Model 3) I'd probably pick one, but as of now I have no need or want for one.

I guess the responses here are expected of people who really are into cars. For a typical user of commuting from point A to point B, I can see Tesla appealing to them. At the price point of Model 3 its a no brainer for many. A lot of people are afraid of driving in general so if they are getting an opportunity to be able to divide responsibilities with AI, I think they would take it. Even the controls within are so easy to use!

Similar to someone referring to iPhone. The ease of using iPhone just blows my mind.

For my second car, if it's not a BMW SUV, I'd definitely consider Tesla.

Not going to happen, unless they make one that runs on 93, makes vroom vroom noises, and looks as good as my M5.

They are real pieces of chit. Worst build quality in the industry. When they improve tenfold then I would be able to consider the brand.

Electric on the other hand has it's place. To work and back, maybe the store, the mundane trips where you "can't" enjoy your car even if it's cool.....in fact, I can rarely enjoy any of my cars, I just enjoy the idea of them.

If I had one of those crazy 1 hr each way commutes I would have to seriously consider an EV. Filling gas a 2-3 times a week would be painful. For people who aren't into cars an EV commuter makes total sense.

When they start making manual, rear wheel drive coupes with a V8

I have 0 interest in any of their current offerings. They make electric appliances, not enthusiast cars. I’d gladly take a manual, RWD, TT I6 BMW over any Tesla any day.

There is a very good chance we will be buying our first electric vehicle in 2021, mainly for her. Tesla did not make our list of choices.

I know looks are subjective but we both find the interior and exterior of Tesla's very unattractive. Also, as silly as this sounds, we don't want to be part of the "Tesla community".

The upcoming Audi Q4 e-tron (SUV or Sportback) is currently at the top of her list.

So to answer the question... probably never.

I'm in the never camp too.

For those considering a Tesla, you owe it to yourself to go through Rich's videos:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfV...8KJADuZT2ct4SA

He gets into the guts of how these things work and all the various issues. I would say he's unbiased and has a funny relationship with Telsa which comes out in the videos. Heck, he owns a couple of Teslas himself and has a repair shop that specializes in fixing Teslas. I know he has 2 locations and I think he just opened a 3rd.

And something else to consider, these cars are so plugged in with talking to the mothership that do you really want that? There was an issue where Tesla turned off supercharging on a bunch of vehicles. The guys that bought and restored salvaged ones were affected under the guise of "safety" but I seem to recall people that bought their used were also affected.

When they have a reasonably priced commuter car, my wife would mostly drive it but then for other city driving for both of us where most of the time you are just on a short drive from point to point. I see the electric car more like my microwave oven, I love the microwave, it does exactly what I need it to but past that I just want it to do it's job, not something I am passionate about. I wouldn't buy an expensive microwave either.

Maybe never. The body has changed a bit over the years but they are still ugly square boxes to me . Every time I see one I think of Lada.

Other than the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger, does anyone make them anymore?

The model 3 is now the single most abundant car on the road, at least in my travels, overtaking the Mustang and 3 series. It's evidence that people don't give 2 shits about exterior design in an automobile.

Had a chance to drive new model X couple weeks ago, there is some improvement, but they're still far away from luxury brands.
Suspension is non compliant, whole car is bouncing, both driver and passenger seat are rattling over bumps ,they are very narrow and not comfortable, luxury smell is not there, but it's priced luxury.
Performance in straight is on the side of electric motors, but simply if you looking for luxury car Tesla is not your player.

Umm, I'll turn 68 next month. I've owned BMWs for nearly 50-years. My current fun daily-driver is a '13 128i M-sport 6-speed. My other drivers are a 2002 530i Sport 5-speed and a 1985 535i 5-speed. So, I drive a 35-year old I-6 5sp, an 18-year-old I-6 5sp, and an 8-year-old I-6 6sp. I also have six BMW motorcycles, 3 '64 700 Convertibles, 2 '70 1600 Convertibles, and many other 2002/tii's and projects.

In 12-years when my 128i is still not old enough to be licensed as an Antique, I'll be 80-years old.

I think my answer is "Never".

On second thought, I already tried to buy a Tesla . . . Roof.

Two-years ago, when we were starting construction on our new house, I contacted Tesla for information and pricing on their roof system. They told me it wasn't offered in Virginia yet. I asked for an estimate of cost based on my roof. They told me they couldn't even tell me that. They then asked me to send them $1000 and they would let me know when it would be available. I asked if they couldn't just give me a ball-park estimate and they said not now. I asked when. They said "Don't know". I said that now would be a good time to know at least for pricing since we would be starting from scratch—all new construction. They said it didn't make any difference because their price included the removal of the old roof.

But, but, but . . . .

I gave up. Their roofing system may still not available in Virginia and I understand they're being sued over it in CA where it has been available for a bit. Catching fire. Unethical loan practices, etc.

So, still, "Never".
