Not an enthusiast brand, is it.

The I4 is the only electric of theirs that is in very high demand here because it still has a reasonable price.

Was talking to the general manager of the local dealer and those iX sitting around were worrying him to say the least. And on top BMW have been giving them plenty of allocations on 100k+ cars like X5/X7 and IX but almost nothing on the bread and butter X3's.

The EQS sales include Sedan and SUV, although still strong sales for a 6-figure EV.

I guess it's the novelty and many loyal MB owners that have been waiting for an EV because those cars are a pile of throw away gimmicky piles.

Its a decent mix based on forum activity. Some owners are loyal MB owners who have had S-Class', or GLE/GLS', however there seems to be a large amount of Tesla owners who want more luxury that have come into EQS ownership.

the x3 m40i was insanely rare towards the latter part of last year... i wonder if the X5 has better margins and BMW focused on it more in general... surprising considering the X3 has been king of sales for years

Oh right right. I forgot there's the EQS and EQS SUV. They should really start separating the sales numbers as they begin to increase.

Agreed, would be much better to see the split, although I'm gonna take a guess and say its a 65/35 split in favor of the SUV. BMW should do the same, I'd be curious to see what percentage of 4ers are Gran Coupes, Electric, Coupe, Cab, etc.

The M3 used to be the benchmark entry level performance car in its segment. It’s not anymore.
Those are the days I miss. Aside from styling, it isn’t a performance icon anymore.

What car outperforms the M3 in the segment? The reality is that the xDrive G8x cars punch above their weight class now.

What’s the consensus on whether Tesla should be considered a luxury brand? I noticed that at their current growth rate, Tesla should catch up to Mercedes & BMW in total sales in the next 2 years. Is it reasonable (or not?) to consider Tesla a luxury brand that competes head to head with BMW & Mercedes?

I don’t have the answer here - just curious on everyone’s opinion.

I think they are, regardless of how luxurious they actually feel. It's definitely a premium price.

If the M3 isn’t a performance icon, then nothing is in this segment and everyone’s opinion and thoughts of the M3 being or not being a benchmark is moot.

You might not think so for your personal reason which is fine but the M3/M4 has grown along with the rest of the segment but doesn’t take away the fact that the M3 is and will likely always be the benchmark like the M5 is. At least until someone comes out and completely leap frogs the entire segment with something mind blowing.

yea cant figure that out either... the 4 banger C63 that weighs 2 plus tons or the RS5 which isn't really good at anything? The G8x may not feel like an old school BMW but it is the absolute king in its class.

I get it that it's gamesmanship and I'm sure Mercedes does the same with AMG equivalent of the M-Performance they are pushing.
I love when m performance owners put M power or MMM3 as their vanity plate or stick on extra m badges !

It seemed like all M Performance models were getting rare last year. There's more X3 showing up on the local lot now, but they are all 30i models. Last year it was predominately X5 40i that filled the lots. The X6 is super rare to find and anyone who has one (except me being stupid) are keeping them.
