Pan cooking is not bad, but it doesn't beat BBQ steak. Hands down my preference.

Tried smoking steaks, was ok, but not my preference.

I had to vote for prime rib, even though a filet is my standard choice.

It comes down to that you can get a good filet at any steakhouse, but only some of them offer prime rib and often only on Fri/Sat.

Hanger is my first choice. Never cared for prime rib.

Ate filet most nights of the week for a couple of years when I shared a house with a butcher. Never got tired of it. I still eat it more than any other steak.

I like flank a lot, too, when it's prepared properly.

Had prime rib the other day at Outback. First prime rib in years. Not impressed. Brought leftovers home. Enough for two more servings.

(My usual meal choice at Outback is pork chops or grilled salmon.)

Next time I feel like beef -- which I eat very seldom -- I'll order a rib eye steak. Or a fillet mignon.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the occaisonal meal from Outback. But they are not someplace I would expect to be getting a good prime rib or any steak. They are pretty much middle of the road at everything.

Prime filet with nice marbling that renders while cooking to medium rare remains #1 to me, followed by a good NY strip. Not a fan of anything with significant non-rendered fat or overcooking to render it. I’ve had some pretty good ribeyes but also have had some pretty bad ones where I felt like I need to perform surgery to take bites I consider edible and end up ordering ribeyes medium if that’s my only choice on a menu.

Yeah, I get your point regarding Outback and can't disagree with you.

While I eat out often because steak/prime rib are not part of my diet I have not developed any list of good places to get steak/prime rib.

There is a Ruth's Chris restaurant in Rogers AR but a quick glance at its lunch menu finds a fillet mignon going for $53. Yeah, I can afford it but still...

Filet mignon has nothing on a nice ribeye I age and grill my own so I am bias. Not many places do steak exceptionally to my liking and that's all I order when I go out, just to be disappointed 80% of the time.

As crazy as it sounds $53 for a prime steak isn’t that bad nowadays (and that’s a la cart by the way). But there are better places than Ruth’s Chris (which is in a different league than Outback) in most cities.

The steaks look outstanding!

I like a good rib eye steak. When steak was a common dish for lunch/dinner that's generally what I ordered.

But I changed to fillet mignon for dietary reasons. Fillet mignon has less fat and is a smaller portion.

Sure I didn't have to eat the entire rib eye in one sitting but taking home rib eye to have as a leftover it just wasn't quite the same in leftover form.

I always got a kick out of their servers trying to push their "chocolate thunder from down under" dessert, because that's what I'd usually leave in my home porcelain throne about two hours after eating there.....

Maybe I have that look..., but I never have had a server push any dessert.

I'm not a dessert eater even at home.

Yes, indeed – winter, schwinter!

At 0°F outside temps, I grilled steaks and burgers and veggies, too, – including asparagus and zucchini – while never seeing a difference in the grill's performance nor how the food turned out. The grill simply didn't seem to care what the ambient temperatures were.

It took me a couple of times to realize that the temps inside the grill dictated all, and that the exterior temps didn't have any meaningful effect.

It was kind of funny, though, grilling outside on the patio in a down jacket good to -10°F!

Try the spicy meatloaf!

It ain't pretty, but that sauce?

I had it lastweek with mashed/Caesar. When the server returned to my plate that had been wiped clean with some bread, I told him "Better send it back. If they offer a replacement, be sure to put it in the to-go box for me."

If the wife goes to bingo tomorrow, walking back and having with a few Maker's neat/5 splashes bitters.
