Need to wait a bit then for those.

For a five mile commute... how about a bike! If not then a Nissan Leaf. Coworker had one for his 3 mile commute and the thing was fantastic!
Leaves, i3's and the Mitsu golf cart thing are nearly free used. You could buy one and a solar panel setup for under $20k and never pay to fuel it.

I'm using it to drop off my kid at her school.

That's awesome! I think it will be cumbersome though (and annoy other parents waiting behind me). Also the speed bumps at her school are ridiculously steep— not sure m3 can clear them.

Subaru Forester. I'm on my 3rd one and while the 2nd had the head gasket issue, I still got the 3rd one. For the money, they are just so utilitarian. Eyesight and AWD are standard, you don't get that in a RAV4, and you get a lot for the money. It's a good car for thrashing around too, our dogs go in it, we go in the dirt, the beach, whatever. However, I highly recommend getting the black leather interior because it cleans up nicer. We previously had grey cloth and leather and it got filthy pretty fast. Driving it makes me appreciate the speed and refinement of my F80 and driving the F80 makes me appreciate the carefree convenience of the Forester.

How is it driving something like this with a stick? Don't get me wrong, I'm an advocate for three pedals, but a truck just seems like something I'd rather have two. I keep looking at the Gladiators and they also offer a 6-speed manual.

I own a 2017 Tacoma with the 6MT, and I do enjoying driving it with the manual. The clutch isn't too heavy or too light making it easy to engage, and the shifter is precise and easy to shift. If I had a full size truck I probably would prefer an automatic, but I don't think there any full size models available with a manual anyway. The Ram with the Cummins turbo diesel was the last I know of that offered a 6MT until recently.

I have a f48 x1 xdrive for kid hauling, groceries, and family road trips. Pretty nimble and can fit a surprising amount of stuff in it. The carplay works great. Nowhere near as fun to drive as my e92 m3 but that isn't the point of it. I have taken it through some rough terrain. Thought for sure I would get stuck in deep mud in Rangely Colorado last year but it gets around surprisingly well.
