The funny part is do you guys get mad when a guy with a nice car also does the same thing parks his car next to you or does he get a pass?

He gets a pass. I figure he is parking next to me because he knows I’m safe. Unless of course he crosses the lines. Then he’s just another A hole.

They're like lemmings. Good thing for them that you didn't drive off a cliff.

This. I can't remember the last time I got a ding in a BMW. Have never received one in the last 10 years with the 135i (which is moot now due to https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1628424). But my other two cars that my wife/daughter drive get dings often.

I always go out of my way to park at the very end of a parking lot, preferably along a curb or a couple inches onto the zebra spot.

Still, some shithead will often come and park next to me. Human beings are inherently selfish and/or oblivious of their surroundings.

If I can clearly tell it's a fellow enthusiast I'll let it go.

No matter how hard you try to prevent a ding, it will happen. Usually when you least expect it.

- I almost always park up close.
- Always get an end or curb spot and ride the curb or go over the cross hatches portion of an end spot.
- Park on the passenger side.
- I don’t park next to minivans, SUVs and some trucks. Most likely driven with passengers & kids that will throw doors wide open, etc.
- not park next to coupes with their longer doors.

Here's example of my parking space choice. Minimizes dings, gives me exercise.

He gets a pass. He'll have the same respect towards my car as I do towards his. Neither of us want to hit our own car into another car.

I always park defensively in the last spot on the lot as close to the curb as possible so there is extra space for whoever parks next to me. That said, the very first week with my then new M240, with it all shiny and new and waxed and beautiful, I parked on the end spot with zebra stripes on my left, so I deliberaly parked outside of the lane and overhung the zebra stripes 2 feet or so, leaving probably 4 or 5 feet to the next space on my right. Extra paranoid with my brand new car. Came out 2 hours later and I could not believe it but I had a ding on the right! I couldn't even imagine the circumstances where someone could manage to be close enough to do that. Plus, I expected anyone looking at this beautiful new car would be extra careful, but apparently no... people just don't care at all...

When I parallel park I use a bumper bully which you can pull out of the trunk and hang over the bumper.... reduces the chance of a ding at the back at least. I am sure people think I am a total idiot when I pull it out, but I Will take the humiliation :-)
I bought this mainly because in my last job, I had to valet park and my 335 had about 50 marks from license plate screws front and back where the valet had nudge me with another car...so annoying....figured when I got my m240 I would protect it from the start...

Exactly. It's not the people with nice cars that they care about who are just wantonly flinging their doors open with zero conscious awareness of the world around them.

I have gotten three memorable door dings.

1.) Euro delivery 2011 335i M-Sport, wonderful trip, 2nd to last day I am parked off to the side in a crowded hotel lot in Interlaken, I walk out to not a ding but a full size crease in the door. Someone just fucking flung their door like the Juggernaut into my brand-new 335i with 500 miles on it, and took off. Shitty.

2.) Parking garage at work, parked in a remote area, against the wall, with, I shit you not, 12 open spots next to me. I counted. 12 open spots. I come out from work and there is a Jetta CRAMMED up against my car, with 11 open spots next to it, and a door ding on my passenger side, and no note. I carefully checked that their door lined up with the ding, then took out my pocket knife, and 100% fucked up their driver side door. No regrets.

3.) Weekend parking lot in an office park, some lady crams in right next to me, again, in a completely empty lot, and leaves a HUGE ding in my brand new GT350 with 400 miles on it. She left her Accord unlocked, I opened the door to align with the ding, perfect fit no question. Backed my car out of the spot, left it idling, then bashed her driver's side mirror off and uppercutted her drivers side door. Mmmmm satisfying. I should have pissed in her car.

I have had my doors dinged and petty damage done to my car so many times, that when I've been able to catch the people responsible, it's like instant Viking bloodlust revenge-mode time. Fuck anyone who is so unaware of the world that they go around damaging other peoples' shit carelessly, they deserve everything that they get.

It has to be some subconscious thing. Maybe they feel that they are parking better if they are parked near others.

Same thing when I am cruising along in the center lane of a three or more lane freeway and someone comes up behind me and tailgates. No traffic in either lane...WTF. So I take my foot off of the gas and just let my car gradually slow down. Most people will not move around until I am nearly crawling...

Dude, you really are a piece of trash, aren't you? Also - probably not the best idea to literally post how you committed a crime on a public forum that can track your IP. Ya know, just sayin'.

I’ve been door dinged from time to time like everybody else, but I’m so careful parking the M3 that it hasn’t happened to this car yet. But last Saturday, when I went to wash the car, I noticed a huge, deep key scratch running the length of the passenger side doors—both of them.

Up to that point, the car was pristine. I PPF’d the front and ceramic coated the whole car. I’ve had it for 21 months. So bummed. I’m not even positive where it happened, but it appears to be a random act of vandalism in my parking garage at work. We are next to a local high school, so maybe it was teenagers. I’m told the only way to repair it correctly is to repaint, and they will have to blend into the quarters and clear basically the entire left side of the car. Then replace the PPF and ceramic. Probably $8k all in. So much for my factory paint.

It’s probably a good thing that I will never know who did it. It would be difficult to control myself. People are such assholes.

Find a quality air brush person. A really good one can fix that to where a full polish and reapplication of your sealant will be all that's needed. It won't be cheap, but also not $8k.

I’ll look into it. Thanks. Does anyone have any SoCal recommendations?

I feel you bro, I would be livid . So many scum haters out there who prohibit themselves from getting on that level of life due to laziness, poor behavior and pessimist attitudes.... and instead of taking initiative to better themselves they just take out their failures on others, choosing to blame everyone and everything for their mistakes.

The world is broken
