Will miss that raging beast. Outside of the city this was the car to be driving - just amazing. I really wish I was in a position to buy an M6 (2010) before end of life - life timing just sucks.

I seriously wish the S85 wasn't ending its production life.... it is such an amazing engine, and they could have ringed so much more out of it. But they want that economy, and want to keep it dialed back for reliability. What better way to do that than with turbo's.
I just pulled the exhaust off a 2010 M5 today, and the sound that thing makes when its not sonically reigned in... good lord, the only way to describe it is track side during initial starts! SPECTACULAR!!

Actually, it is the other way around.

Globally, the E39 M5 was produced for 5 model years (1999 - 2003) but the E60 M5 was produced for 6 model years (2005-2010).

And here in the U.S. the E60 M5 spanned 5 model years (2006-2010) while the E39 M5 was here for only 4 model years (2000-2003).

Which makes the E60 sales drubbing even more embarrassing.

Then later, BMW cripples the 6MT version by not allowing DTC/DSC defeat.

If it weren't for the E39's carbon buildup issue and the E60 6MT cripple above, I'd probably be driving an M5 right now.

Edit: Ok, old info about the E60 6MT. Apparently it is possible to disable the electronic-save-your-@ss daemon. Guess I'll start looking at them again!

And to be fair, sales of the E60 also suffered because the M6 was offered ... which the E39 never had to face.

So maybe adding together E60 M5 and E61 M6 sales makes for a better comparison to E39 M5 sales.
