Given the size of the universe, it's myopic to think we're alone.

Development is another story. Life on this planet existed FAR longer than modern civilization. We got lucky as a race, honestly, to have gotten to this point. Lots of creatures are higher on the food chain than we are.

We're also lucky that we've developed this quickly in the middle of 14,000 year cycle for ice ages like our planet has. Think of the amount of development that will be undone when we go into the next one and have to become eskimos for ~14,000 years.

The future of the human race depends on our ability to create sustainable ecosystems in space. THAT requires a LOT of development as a people that we're nowhere close to. Too much self-centered attitudes as a people. Gluttony, Greed, and living to excess are too common today, plus our inability as a race to control breeding, will all lead to our inability to sustain ourselves in space for any significant amount of time.

I believe in aliens, but I don't think they fly down and abduct people, what would be the point of that. If they did posses technology to transport them across light-years of space, they would have HUGE energy dependance and would of likely depleted resources on their own world. They'd likely just cruise the universe striping planets of resources and killing all inhabitants. It also doesn't make sense why they would come down and blow us up, or shoot lasers or whatever, they'd likely just release some airborne virus and wait for us all to die.

we basically do the same thing with animals..knock them out..check their vitals, tag them and put them back into the wild...means of just checking in on them to make sure they are ok

and why would aliens travel thousands of light years to tag us and be sure we are ok? That's a lot of time and energy expended to be the humanitarians of the universe.

My thoughts on this is, why would "God" make a gigantic, expanding universe and only give 1 planet life.

If they could make it this far, they have figured out a way to harness energy from the stars (suns), and energy is not their concern.

I believe there is life out there somewhere.

Though, I don't think we will ever witness first contact in our lifetime.

That's a big assumption! Just because they could harness it, doesn't mean it would be easy for them.

I'm just saying that I don't think it is energy that they would be after, maybe they would be looking for some resources...who knows

interesting.

I'm agnostic when it comes to believing in Aliens, I don't really care one way or the other, but the idea of them is neat.

If i were to believe in them, I would look at it like I look at earth. How many species do we have here? and only one of which has developed to the point of humans. So if there is life on other planets, it could be as simple as bacteria. And to the other extreme, beings such as ourselves or even further developed. Perhaps dinosaurs rule another planet. Perhaps some planets are 100% water and only have aquatic life that has developed completely different to what Earth has done.

As far as a religious standpoint goes, maybe our universe is like the neighbourhood our god moved into and built himself. Maybe other universes have gods that have done similar things

Who really knows.

I don't particularly care, but it is a fascinating thought.

Water has been found on Jupiter's Moon Io, our own moon, Saturn's moon Enceladus, and Mars. I'd be willing to bet it's more common than most people think.

And to think that we're alone in the universe is absolutely absurd. Humans have been around for ~.0012% of Earth's life and the earth has been around for ~25% of the observable universe's life. Taking that into consideration along with the fact that whenever we focus on a tiny dark patch of sky for long enough we see literally hundreds of thousands of galaxies, each of which contain millions, if not billions, of stars, and each star could house any number of planets, you would be insane to think that there isn't some form of intelligent life out there. For all we know there was a hyper-intelligent race on Mars that died out billions of years ago. Now, whether or not an intelligent civilization has mastered space travel; that's debatable.

even comets that hit earth are full of water.

often the trails that follow comets in space are water vapour trails. So them coming to earth for water maybe be a bit out of their way.
