For one, I’m stuck using the passcode since Face ID is not as secure as advertised. The physical size is nice as it’s about the size of a standard iPhone but you have almost the same size screen as an 8+. I don’t like how you switch apps or dismiss apps, I think it’s faster with the home button. I also prefer the wider screen of the 8+ especially for web browsing.

Oh, yeah, SO well...
https://www.theverge.com/2017/12/28/...w-down-apology I refused to buy a 7 or an 8, so I bought my 6S, new, in October 2016. My battery is not that old and isn't in bad shape. This is such bullshit that they slow my phone for this crap. If their specs every year are always touted as the best ever, I think it's hilarious that their phones are incapable of running subsequent updates to iOS. Oh, and I should mention, I have the latest update and my phone still shuts down on it's own and my iMessages are all out of order, My God, even Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 run fine on old PC's... I would look at four specific phones.
I do think it's ridiculous for a flagship phone not to have wireless charging or expandable storage. I would not consider a phone at these price points that have neither. With Quick Charge 3.0, wireless charging is less important than a microSD slot, but I would not ever buy a phone that did not allow for expandable storage. Make the move out of the Apple ecosystem as soon as you can. You will relish the ability to customize your phone to the way you want to use it instead of how Jony Ives tells you to Last edited by JohnnyCanuck; 01-25-2018 at 11:50 AM.. |

Apple will never touch corporate servers, infrastructure, real business, etc. There is no reason to pay 3x the cost or even x2 the cost for a comparable laptop. Their days are numbered. I had iPhones and they were meh. I will never go back. |

Not really pertinent to phones, but Apple computers in my experience have a much longer useful life. I have an imac that's about 10 years old, a macbook that's around 9. I've upgraded the hard drives, memory and software, but that's about it. Try that with a PC.

My primary computer's guts are 10 years old. Runs great. I've upgraded the HDD to an SSD, added RAM to max out at 16 GB, and upgraded the video card twice (with $150 Nvidia's, nothing fancy, and it was out of want, not need). My Lenovo X1 Carbon is 6 years old, never done upgrades, works great. I have a media computer I built that has guts in it that are 13 years old (AMD x64 box). Runs fine on Windows 7 and streams HD media from my server with no issues. I've had it on 8.1 before with no issues. Any of them would run 10, no problem.

I've used macs for decades, I prefer IOS and OSX. Pretty straight forward for me with that alone, but add in the vastly superior resale value and overall more polished experience and it's no contest for me. I usually keep to a 2-4 year replacement cycle depending on phone, laptop or desktop and it's relative specs when I bought it and I routinely see 60% or more return when I sell on. That goes a long way towards the purchase of the next one. I've also found them to be very stable and robust so I've rarely encountered issues with the os or hardware and my desktops will routinely see a few months of uptime without issue, only being shutdown for updates now and again. great memory management, security etc...works for me.

I am pretty annoyed at ALL current flagship phones as none of them now come with a removable battery.

Honestly, stick with what you know. All of these devices are pretty amazing. The next gen of your apple will be a little better than your last, and the next gen of android will be a little better than the last.

The average cell phone battery lasts a few years before performance becomes an issue. The iPhone currently costs $25 to have it replaced at an Apples store. Usually it costs $75. That's $75 every 2-3 years. That's a VERY small price to pay over that amount of time. Why pay for a door and have the added bulk of a door that you are only going to use once or twice in 5-6 years? Keep in mind that a store serviced battery replacement also comes with a guarantee that the install will be successful. In other words, you get a brand new phone if the battery installation somehow damages the internals. I should know, I got a brand spanking new iPhone 6 Plus when I had the battery swapped because the battery had expanded and damaged the screen. So yes, is SOUNDS convenient to have a removable battery, but actually, it's not.

THIS and homologation. The biggest problem I had with Android is that there are too many manufacturers making android hardware. With iOS, only Apple is making the hardware and has tight control over the root kits. This means that everything on iOS is more harmonious and can shake hands with the apple line of products more seamlessly and results in a better user experience. You pay a premium for this experience, but to me, it's totally worth it. I was a hardcore PC fanboy since the Intel 80386 from the 1980's building my own PCs in grade school all through college. I've gone completely Apple in the past 10 years and now I enjoy using these tools instead of tinkering with them, trying to get them to work together.
