Get rid of the whole system it's stupid. Pay them a normal wage, if they suck fire them and get someone who doesn't suck. Why is this so difficult? It's the way EVERY other job works.

Many countries don't even have the custom of tipping for restaurants. I actually like it that way. Just pay up front in the price of the food and service.

You know when you go to a restaurant, and the server is on point? They can explain dishes, provide rec's, maybe even brighten your day with a treat of some sort? If you get rid of tipping, you get rid of that. Those people are pro's, no different than any of us in their profession. They earn their tips, whether you see what they may be dealing with in the back or not. Maybe you'd rather have some minimum wage lacky? Or maybe you'd prefer to have the restaurant absorb that cost? Instant 20% mark up. Maybe you wouldn't complain, but others would, and it would cost the restaurant customers and revenue. It's a no win for either restaurant or customer to get rid of tipping.

I had a irish coffee and a nice dessert, Ritz totally rocks. Shit not even sure I can make it to my bed from the desk I'm sitting at LOL I had 3 cocktails here, then another at moxies and a cheesburger but the service was MEH the dude loaded my irish, jemsons and baileys, and he gave me some cherries soaked in some concotion I'm not falling down drunk, but just very very very..... managed to get a late checkout, 2pm, so I can use the pool one last time and have a breakfast. Then back to the grind and all the crap at home, fuq, I'm wondering even if I want to go home. God bless my BMW, love driving that thing. Tommorow top is going down and cruise home. I can't g'tee I wont post anything stupid, if I do... just ignore it weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeee |

Maybe someone can chime in on this because I don't fully understand it, but can you claim your tips as income when applying for loans or mortgages and such? I thought I heard that you cant, and if that's true you'd think more people would want to be rid of the tipping system and instead pay normal wages.
An old room mate of mine was a bartender, and when she left bartending and went to work at an insurance company it was a complete shock to her not having the ability to get cash every night and instead had to budget her spending between paychecks. It took her a long time to get one track because she never had to learn how to budget. |

If it was such a great system everyone would get paid in tips. I have to deal with stupid customers everyday... do I get tipped for not calling them an idiot and hanging up? No. I get paid a decent salary and if I wish to continue being paid I have to continue providing good service to customers regardless of if I get a tip. |

This is a little different of a question. If you get a massage or a hair cut and the person who does your service owns the place, what percent do you tip?
The lady who does my hair owns her own salon. She's been my friend for years so I asked her. She told me that most people tip too much since she is the owner. If just feels weird to leave less than 20%. |

You get paid well enough to not call your customers an idiot because the price of that 5 star service is obviously built in to your salary. Your company has absorbed that and passed it on to your idiot customers. In a restaurant, that's not how it is set up, and if you wanted to do that, as I said above, get ready for an instant 20% mark up. Even so, many servers who are the best of the best regularly make above 20%, and the resulting pay cut would drive them to another profession. Maybe you don't frequent the same places enough to know what consistant and good tipping do for your level of service, but I don't want to give that up. And it would 100% go away if tipping went away. |

This one always gets me when i see people with a coupon. When i have a discount or a coupon, i always tip off the original total, and they always tip off the new total. The server didnt do less because you have a coupon, so why would you pay less in tip?
