Apple CarPlay is finally a free feature in BMW vehicles

Great news!!! I have definitely had several issues with the iDrive 7. Was going to try to bitch and moan about customer sat to get CarPlay covered for the remainder of my lease.

Sucks for the people who run Android. Now they are paying for something they don't need or want. Just like moonroofs.

You betcha. Old enough to remember when you could order all options individually.

I get the overall lower cost/better quality argument for bundled options and standard offerings. But it's a sad time.

Still a 420 USD option on my connected drive store !! This is BS , not that i want/like/going to use apple car play but hell if its free in the UK and the US then why do people here have to pay $420 for it ,? either everybody pays or no one does , right ?

My will expire in Jan, I only drive on the weekend, so if it takes them a while to roll out I'll sit and wait... unless they're doing 2021 and later model only...

I use both depending on what I am doing. It's easy to go back and forth now that BMW has worked out the bugs with CarPlay implementation. Be advised that my comments are based on my experience with my 2018 M3 comp and my 2019 X6M.

Mine is free until May 2020. I suspect they will make it free soon and those people who already paid will be out the money. I don't see them doing refunds....

With it soon being free, there's no risk in trying it, to see whether you like it or not.

The main big advantages are of course the layout being very similar to your phone, the ability to use Google Maps or Waze which I much prefer over BMW/Mercedes' navigation, as well as Spotify (or apple music/other streaming services) being extremely easy to use.

I mainly only use it for music, podcasts and maps, and answering calls from the wife or children.
