Even though we have multiple cars, none get loaned out. Ever. Period. Luckily everybody in my life can rent a car if they need to.

He needs to pay for getting the bumper fixed, you shouldn't even have to ask him.

I think you're being a little over- dramatic with some of this though- uneven tread wear, break dust, thank God there wasn't a bug squashed on the front.

This always results in scratches and dents...... And less fuel in the tank than before.
My bro's boss is always hitting him up to help him get this and that from HD or Lowes since he has the RAM 1500 Hemi. Then when they go out to dinner or something, oddly, it's always Dutch.

Which made me think of something--we're talking about lending vehicles. how about homes?

When my buddy relocated from the east cost of FL to SC, the house did not sell for over 1 yr. He said endless friends and relatives asked to borrow the house, hey, you're not using it anyway. One thing he remarked to me since we're close--not one, single, person, offered to pay anything towards utilities etc. while using the house. Human nature.

Hint: When people invite you to a destination gathering or event, and pay for the resort, offer to buy dinner, or something, or bring a gift. They just dropped over 1k on you and your family, a small gesture won't hurt...

(they invited us to Palm Coast FL over Memorial Day)

I'm like all of you guys, I clean all my cars until you can eat off of the tires, but for all you single guys out there...put a hot chick with big tits and heart shaped ass into the scenario and your dick will say yes in a heartbeat! ask me how I know

Hahaha, it's not so much the presence of those things but how they happened.

Not an issue. Too ugly to ever get a hot chick with big tits and a heart shaped ass. Maybe a big chick with a heart and an ass.

I have never let anyone borrow my car and if a group of friends has the time and money to go out of town for the weekend and drive 500 miles they can also split the cost of a rental.

Never let anyone know you have a trailer either. A flat bed is a "new" friend maker....guaranteed. As to loaning cars. My truck-sure. My big block Chevelle- nobody would even ask(its too scarey for most). My BMW- no they can borrow my truck.

Trailers with heavy equipment is the worst. Everytime i pull my bobcat with trailer, every neighbor comes out and asks for me to either "help" them or let them borrow it.

Wonder if girls are different? My wife (before I even knew her) loaned her Audi to her cousin, and the cousin wrecked it. That was the end of it, my wife had no car going forward (worked in Manhattan). She wasn't even angry. How it worked is she lived with her aunt/uncle (cousin's parents) and so it's an extended family situation. There was no collision insurance as the car was paid by cash and was like 7 years old.

To this day, nobody can tell me what model Audi it was, only that it was 4 doors, stick, and had white leather, model was around 2000.

This past week, my cousin asked to borrow my car claiming he had to go to West Point for work.

Instead, he racked up over 500 miles travelling to DC with his friends.

Over the course of the week he managed to gouge the rear bumper, unevenly wear out the front treads, and build up more brake dust on the front wheels then I've ever seen in my life - and I commute 90 miles per day.

I've learned my lesson and my policy will always be 'no' going forward. Unlike many, driving, cleaning, and maintaining my car is therapeutic to me. I love every part of it. But when things like this happen, I probably let it bother me more than the average person.

So there's my little rant.

I'd like to hear your experiences or your "policy" on lending cars to family/friends. What would you do in my situation?

Did he at least leave a full tank of gas?

Whats the remedy? is he paying for the damage done?

My mother and father get my GF's car when they come in town. Since getting her a new car, I care for it as well as I care for mine, but have no issue lending it to them. If my dad really wanted to borrow my car, sure I'd let him. Before her, I had a second vehicle they could use. Before that, I always needed my car and they always stayed at hotels, so they rented a car anyway. I have ONE friend who's allowed to take my car no questions asked. When he does, he always leaves me his. Outside of that, you can GFY if you want to borrow one of my cars.

sometimes it is interesting how people are "willing" to loan....my boss' dad works on Nissans, and he offered to switch cars (my nissan is a '98, his car is a 2016).....

I once loaned out my 92 525i/5 (it was a 2nd/3rd car at the time) for a few days to my sister in laws husband. I was reluctant at first but figured they needed wheels until their POS minivan got fixed. Even though they didn't put their kids in it, there was brake dust up front, though they returned it with a full tank. I was rather concerned while it was in their hands, however, never again.

My brother has his own car. Sometimes he'll ask to take the GLI around the block. I know he does it to hear the turbo. I'm not really worried about him messing the car up.

As far as the M3 goes, I'd say about 70% of the time, that car has the track tires and track brakes bolted to it. I don't let anyone take it out since the characteristics of those items are different from their street counterparts.
I had an old friend's son ask to take my M6 to prom (seriously) and he was very insulted that I didn't acquiesce to his request. I had to sit him down and tell him that the mere fact he made the request let me know that he wasn't mature enough to realize what he was asking and therefore not responsible enough to trust with a $100K, highly modified vehicle. My friend told me that it was exactly what he needed to hear because he was getting a bit full of himself.

The kid drives a Mustang now and I'm a bit afraid!!
Did you make him take piss test before this chat. M6? Prom? Really?
