I once kept a collection of things I've misunderstood/misheard. Some of them were great! The one that stands out to this day. "How high is the steeple?" What I heard "Bow to Mike's nipple." Had planned on collecting them throughout the years and then putting them in a book called, Misunderstandings of an Idiot.
Today, I would like to write a book for the ex-girlfriend based on communication skills called, You Can't Listen if You Don't Stop Yelling and If You'd Stop Yelling, You'd Hear That There Is No Reason To Be Upset. Rough draft below. Chapter 1. Fuck it. Chapter 2. Next! |

I've gone back and read some of my "work" from high school and early college.
Nope, not gonna happen. Lups my kids are relatively normal, blessed with decent health, no major defects on the outside. I still can't sleep thru the night, approaching Dr. appointment or not. |

Now, my eldest told me a few days ago a 16 year old, the second youngest one in their weirdo high school physics integration to uni club had said to my kid that he is going to marry my kid. My kid told me that, and when I was waiting for a story about them locking eyes and exchanging notes and them having an epic romance and me freaking out about birth control. So the boy's mom called me yesterday. Apparently the kids want to participate to some robotics class together too, mine wants to be a surgeon, theirs wants to transform transformers basically. Those two will probably get married one day. His mom and I also will be adopting abandoned ponies so we have something to call as grandkids.

I've written one book, about 80k words, and am about 45k words into the sequel.
I read a whole shit-ton of fantasy and sci-fi, ever since I read LotR back when I was but a wee lad. One of the genres I have been reading lately is LitRPG. Basically, it's stories about people who are playing in a game like world, with character sheets, statistics, etc..., like they were in a D&D world, or a modern MMORPG. There are varieties of the genre, some of them based on VR, others are what is called portal fantasy (in which the MC is transported whole into a game world) Anyways, my wife is editing the first book, and when it is done, I will publish it on Kindle Unlimited. Probably spend a couple hundred dollars for a decent cover, and I expect to at least make that back. I've heard of some KU authors making a thousand or so a month for the first couple months. If I don't make anything, I won't mind, as I am having fun writing these books. I've got a five book arc planned out for this series, and I plan on finishing the series there. If I make decent money out of it, I will continue writing. If not, my kids are having fun reading them.

People have often asked me to write about my time as a rep and lobbyist...especially as a rep in the pre-PhRMA days which was the Wild Wild West.
It was all crazy parties, travel junkets, incredibly beautiful reps, salacious physicians, horny nurses, sample controversies, drugs pulled from the market, samples stolen then relabeled and sold, appearances the cover of The Wall Street Journal about people I know and, quite sadly, a suicide....etc. There are even people I know that were part of enforcement actions by the FDA, FTC and DEA. Ahhhh the good old days!! After all of the prompting, I actually wrote a 2000 word treatment and passed it on to a casting director I know who has done a few big movies. She loved it and said we could either make a Netflix/Amazon-esqe series from the idea or a full-length movie with named actors. I've finished the 3 major scene and 3 minor scene story boards, all major and minor characters and locations. Now if I only had the time to write the damn words that go between.

It sounds like an incredible story. Your first-hand knowledge would make it even more special. If you don't have time, record your thoughts and pay somebody else to write it down for you. This story needs to get told. Just go do it. |

I wrote a humour/travelogue book about cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats in the UK, around 1,000 miles or so over 8 days. Self-published on Kindle and did pretty well for a couple of years - proceeds funded a boy's cycling road trip to Sweden for me and my brother-in-law.
Like Dave 90TT I used to be seriously into fantasy/sci-fi and have a series of books partially written sitting on a dusty HDD somewhere. Maybe when I retire I'll go back to it..... don't think it'll ever raise much more than some beer money mind you. George RR Martin it ain't.... Last edited by Blacktemplar; 10-05-2020 at 03:55 PM.. |
