Lol. And I'm saying...if a dealer is offering this performance package...they will honor any warranty issues. Why would VW hide something from VW? Smh. At any rate...many of these fears are moot. Cases of major warranty issues I'm sure are rare.

It is hard to say exactly as I have had the GTI for about a year longer and have only had the M3 since November. So on one hand, the weather hasn't been the best for the M3. On the other hand it is pretty new to me, so I try to drive it when I can. I think I will eventually settle around 50/50 with more of the M3 when I am alone and more of the GTI when I am with the family. My wife loves to drive the GTI as well even though she has a new A6. It is just a fun car, especially in manual.

This.

My Mk7 is about to get lowered with wheels. After that, intake and JB4, then dp and Remus exh later down the road.

It all comes down to your dealership and how THEY handle your car. If they hook your car up to the VW computer, it will flag it that it's been tuned and it will void the warranty - the risk is on you.

My VW dealership does a TON of aftermarket parts and tunes on VW's right at the dealership (check my sig for mods). The first thing they ask a new customer is if you have a tune. If you do, they hook the car up to their computer and not VW's. If there is an issue, they will work with you to try to get it covered as best as possible without voiding the warranty.

In the end, you are rolling the dice. I trust my dealership for sure.

That being said: Enjoy your new ride. Just a Stage 1 or JB4 makes a huge difference.

I used to tune cars for my local vw dealer....it varies tremendously and at the end of the day the failure would still have to relate to the ecu flash when push comes to shove for them to be able to legally deny the claim. In theory, in a perfect world, ymmv

There's also the Neuspeed power module if you want something easy to install and you can just unplug before going to the dealer. It's an external piggyback device. It doesn't quite make as much power as a flash tune but if you're worried about warranty, it's not bad.

My First Two Days With the GTI

As some of you know, I just picked up a 2017 GTI a couple of days ago to ease the miles on the M. This is my first GTI, and I have to say it is better than I thought it would be. Let's see if I feel the same way after the honeymoon period, but so far I think I made a great call. Specifically:
Initial build quality -- everything is screwed together nicely, entire car feels like a chunk of granite. Zero rattles. I know all about VW long term reliability issues so I will be watching this closely
Quickness -- its only about 3000 lbs, and with 258 lbs ft of torque this thing moves...highway passing with ease
Transmission-- throws are a little long but overall a very nice unit
Gas mileage -- I have been driving spiritedly but not thrashing it and am getting over 30 mpg
Really happy with my choice!!

I had a 2007 GTI and truly loved it but if you do mods on it, you really need to sort out the front end. It handled a stage 1 APR tune really well. It was once I got to stage 2 that then I needed to worry about Beyer tires, motor mounts etc.

I loved the GTI so much I am probably getting a Golf R next year to replace my Avalon for the same reason you're getting the GTI. I want to enjoy my 135is for several years but kind of have my cake and eat it too lol.

My brother has an S3 and is really smitten with it.

I have a 16 golf R. I think the R stock is more fun than my tuned 335i. I think it's more of a car for the money. Have fun with your new purchase. You made a good choice!

Jury is still out on the long term reliability of the mk7 GTI but assuming it's good, it's an excellent package. It has a more quiet interior than the m235i which was surprising

I dunno VAG uses that 2.0 in almost all their cars so there are tens of millions of miles on it. It's similar to the BMW 3.0 I6 in that it seems to run rich but I never had a problem with it's reliability.

I find the backup camera to be more crisp than cars far more expensive.

what a fun car to drive! I'm looking for DD as well and yesterday I went to checkout 2017 GTI myself, I ended up driving one with DSG and one with 6MT and what a difference between those 2. Auto was seriously lagging! They only had SE on the lot with few S coming soon, not that it matter.
I'm not new to VW brand, I own 6 VWs in the past, Golf D, couple of Jettas, couple of Passats, Tiguan and latest CC R-line.
Unfortunately I will have to pass on GTI at this time as I have to share my DD with somebody else who’s not huge fan of this brand and manual transmission but still I will consider it for the future!

I've experienced the same issue with the DSG regardless of what its connected to.....unless you really kick the go pedal it doesnt do anything.....and then all of a sudden...."bang" it goes......its almost a 1 or 0 response with little to no modulation

And reverse is even worse

TCU tune fixes how the DSG cars drive in regular 'Drive'. I drive mine in manual 99.9% of the time. Works great. Gives me the flexibility and freedom of selecting what gear I want and when, but still will downshift for me when coming to a stop, or I can always go back to 'Drive' for stop-and-go traffic.

There's a good chance my GTI's successor will be an R, and will be a DSG again for sure.

My New GTI Is Officially One Of The Best Cars I Have Ever Owned

Like many of you, I have owned lots of cars (20+)...my top 2 cars ever are my current F80, and my previous 2011 E92 M3. All other cars have been great in their own way, but did not make it to the top of the list for lots of different reasons. Only a week into having a new 2017 GTI as my DD, it now joins this short list. What an incredible car...quick, spacious, comfortable, fun (esp the 6spd manual), and efficient. It's one of those cars you instantly feel comfortable in and can start testing the limits (safely). Very impressed...and for the price I paid (around $22k + TTL) it is a screaming bargain!!

Couldn't agree more with this. I traded in my '15 GTI for my current '17 M3. I loved that car and if i had the financial ability i would have kept it as a compliment to the M.

Post some pics if you get around to it. Any plans with it, or since it's your DD keeping it stock?
