Continuing to tweak my house Sazerac recipe. I typically use rye whiskey, but cognac is a traditional way to make them, as well. I went with a hybrid. As it currently stands:

1.75 oz rye
.75 oz cognac
.25 oz honey syrup
2 dashes Peychauds
1 dash Ango
Pernod/Absinthe glass rinse

Adding the cognac brings even more depth to the cocktail.

Killed a few bottles in the past month, but luckily I have backups of my favorites. Haven’t cracked the GTS or the EHTBP yet but I know they’re tasty...

Heard it has a funky nose but is pretty solid.

New Riff SB Rye is one of my favorites, great choice!

This weekend it was Makers Mark 46 CS, Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Proof, and Weller OWA. Very tasty weekend.

Yeah, the nose is a little weird on that one, but man the whiskey is good! Can't wait to see a 6 year or older rye from them. I've heard great things about their Balboa rye as well and just heard they're releasing more in the next couple months. Hoping to get my hands on a bottle this time around.

Nice! I picked up a bottle of Makers 46 CS as well. Pretty solid whiskey. Now I'm keeping an eye out for the makers SE4xPR5. Haven't had the Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Proof, but sounds like you had a good weekend.

Ah yes, I had the SE4xPR5 as well. It is good but I don't like it quite as much as last year's RC6 sadly. It also seemed harder to get this year than the RC6 was last year.

i've not tried the 1942...but my best tequila buddy says it's his hands-down favorite.

between the other two -- both of which i've tried fairly recently -- i liked the JC family reserva the best.

but everyone's taste is their own. maybe find a bar where you can try a pour of each to make the decision?

Yeah, RC6 was pretty good. I'm in Ohio and we haven't even seen this years release yet... Stupid control state.

Have any of you tequila drinkers tried KAH? It was my favorite a few years ago, then they went through some business issues and stopped producing. I just found they are back operational and for sale in Total Wine, so I got a bottle of Blanco. What an incredible sipper. Highly recommended.

This is a review from when they were originally producing:
https://www.totalwine.com/spirits/te...1&igrules=true

I haven't found any info on when / how they got back into business.

Edit: Here is a good article on the backstory, lawsuits, etc.

TXSTYLE Help me out here. Going to take my 21-yo to a casino this weekend. We are staying with my nephew-in-law. I was joking with him, and asked what their cacellation policy was, and he said if less than 24 hours, I owe him a bottle of Cap'n.

Since I intend to actually stay with him, I'm going to bring him something to better his appetite. And since my son is now 21, I want to try to stop him from getting into any bad habits.

I'm partial to the Kirk/Sweeney 12, but asking for your "professional" assistance. We leave Thursday night, so I can't really order something.

Sorry for the late response...

In order:

1. Plantation XO
2. Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva
Zaya
El Dorado 12 or 15
El Pasador

Any of these will be pleasing. The Top 2 are exceptional.
