well, there's few spot around toronto where you can drive on ice, I have seen dumpers and grader to open a ice rink.

But the thickness is not there yet, especially next to the shore, since there's warmer water flowing from the underground.

and every year we have those kind of smart ass getting their fishing shack late March.

Manotick residents along the banks of the Rideau River were forced into an unexpected water rescue Sunday afternoon after a woman crashed through the ice while driving her car on the frozen river.

Canadians are entirely too nice. The residents, police, and firefighters should have gathered on the shore and taken selfies of themselves with her in the background instead of rescuing her. Then walked off and left her to get herself out of the mess she created.

I hope all costs of extracting her Scion from the river will be passed on the her directly. There's got to be some clause in her insurance that will get them out of paying for this.

So her insurance won't cover the loss, and probably not the removal either....and you're right, what ever happened to thinning the heard.

I hope that I'm wrong about this being a suicide, but my first feeling from reading the story was that it is similar to the mother up here that put her kids into the family car and intentionally drove down a boat ramp into the Hudson River a while back.....
