Fwiw, since it came out @ Baselworld the end of march I'm on the list for the new SD 116600. I hope it will arrive soon but I guess it will be autumn...

So i just dropped my rolex (handed down from my father) off at an AD to get serviced . . . $1500
Its a 1979/1980 gold presidential series. Is this a reasonable price for servicing? |

Depends on what they needed to do. The gold bracelets oftentimes need to be drilled and refilled if the links get loose. It is hard to know without a list of what their "service" includes.

That's high for a standard lubrication and polish (which I can get done for $500 at a trusted AD in South Carolina), but with a watch pushing 35 years of age, I wouldn't be surprised if they're doing much more as tr_ms3 mentioned.

As far as what has to be done to it besides the standard servicing they also have to replace the crystal. Does the $1500 seem more reasonable now?

Not to salt the wound, but when I had my Paul Newman refurbished, they did the following:
Serviced the movement, replaced the (acrylic) crystal and crown, replaced the markers, refinished the dial, and polished the case and bracelet. This was 2012 at an AD and was $700 + shipping both ways. While mine is not a solid gold presidential (or gold plated for that matter), it is much more rare than yours and parts are much harder to find. |

Well I just got an exact price to fix the watch, $1975!
Apparently the dial is all pitted to they need to replace that which is $600-$700 (what I was told).

Get it fixed right the first time and you won't have to do anything to it for years and years! P.s. I just had an Explorer II serviced. Full polish, new bezel and full movement rebuild cost $1,000. BTW: This was a SS watch, not a gold watch, so I don't think the price you're being quoted is out of the question.

Some people also think their watch is appreciating when they see that it is now worth more than the price they paid 20 years ago, however when you factor for inflation you see that it has actually depreciated. |

Anyone have the info on how and where to get a rose gold daytona at a reasonable price? PM me if so please and thanks! Yes, I could go buy one at retail or get a sligh discount, but I'm sure there is someone out there ready to sell their watch and I can give them more than what the dealer will.

I wore a Sub Date for 10 years and sold it for an $800 profit. Yes, I wore it almost daily and enjoyed it and it still incresed in value. Never did I think that would happen! There aren't too many items that you can do that with. I enjoy most of my watches almost daily (right now I'm wearing a new GMT BLNR and actually wear my black face Daytona when I race).
