I'm also giving the 8 year a go. I'm a huge fan of the 16 year but for half the price I'm pleased with the 8 year and could see it becoming my daily driver.

Lagavulin 16 is in a class all its own, but I find that in general my preference often goes towards younger versions, c.8-12yo or those w/o age statement (usually blending youngsters w/ the old). The 18yo+ versions are nice, but seldom enough to move into my regular rotation. And even more than age, I'm finding that I REALLY prefer non-chill filtered versions, like Ardbeg, Laphroaig Cask strength and Quarter Cask, Bruichladdich, etc.

And speaking of things in the daily rotation, ++ for the B52's reference.

So I read about this place that has great food and daily RUM tastings in St John: ASOLARE

And definitely try some Cruzan Single Barrel. This is the brands home base.

This their most award winning RUM. I haven't located any yet. But judging by the reviews, it's really good. Hope you all have big fun!

Bruichladdich is one of my favorite along side Ardbeg Kelpie. I'm glad I found this thread, going to have to try some of the recommendations.

Yeah, I was dubious of that because of all the swill that family puts out, but it's a great dram.

I like to think of that as "the rum drinker's tequila". You're right, it's quite tasty.

Also, I scored a bottle of Blood Oath Pact 5 over the weekend. Haven't opened it, yet, but I hear/read good things.

Closed permanently after the last storm

Cruzan has tours, but they appear to be on St. Croix. Day trip! Just looking at their listing, am getting curious about their Black Strap!

Pre-buyout Casamigos Reposado is yummy. Heard the latest from them isn't as good. Smooth sipping tequila for sure.

They did. I was surprised because their Whiskey offerings were lame. But the Plantation 20 was superb. Not horribly pricey, either. At least compared to NYC prices. Sort of chintzy pours, though. Nonetheless, it was the perfect way to end the day.

I've been hearing about this and I need a tasty, smooth sipping Tequila. Since it's not my favorite, my max amount is $50.
I've also heard great ribs about Qui Platinum....

Believe I found this one for $45, but apparently you have to find a batch pre-buyout since the latest batches vanilla flavor is too enhanced and fake apparently. Haven't tried the latest batch but mine bottled in 2015 tastes great.
