Cloud computing (in theory and practice) is very interesting. I am reading a book right now that takes it to a whole different level, philosophically. Not certain how far the author will take it, but he rarely disappoints with his ambition. Image applying it to a neural network - a real biological one - people. Like the Borg or a hive mind - but where each node retains free will. Would there be filters? Who would control them? Hmmm...

If what you say comes to pass, then we will have a fully comprehensive biological infrastructure of every possible physiological action and drive.

I'd say at that point, reason and free will become factors of subjectivity, given the intrusions and power placed in the hands of the controlling authority.

THAT is precisely what I was driving at/wondering about. At what speed and ubiquity does the combination of knowledge (storage) and reason (computation) erase the distinction completely and make will, basically, obsolete. When Aristotle said that Good is but doing the rational, could this be that in a way? That architects of the app (the computational logic) becomes God? His will becomes the collective human will? Morality becomes being bug-free and executing the program properly? Hehe. Weird. Not that I think this would happen in a pure form, but some aspect of it will and, in some ways, has. When we add a word to the dictionary, we are canonizing collective will and making convention into law. Accelerate this by orders of magnitude and apply to more than definitions of words and you are starting to get it. Google has a similar effect - the masses determine what is Right. Now, look at the collective wisdom of the masses and decide whether you think this is good or bad.

Reminds me of the mantra that the townsfolk went by in Hot Fuzz; "for the greater good".

Scary, isn't it? Ideally, that will most likely be an inevitable aspect of good and evil, because the rationale of the masses will become a tangible component of justice, something which has never been a possibility.

You never know the reason behind why actions are taken. However, with appropriate neurological resources, "appropriate" determinations can be made. Makes a lie detector test look like it was developed from a soda can, or something.

My thing is this: how will the demographics morph over time regarding moral will and right and wrong? Because if you consider that being the future of our "psychological cloud" given the direction the youth are moving in these days, we may have to extract fragments of thought process from the more poignant thinkers of our time (such as yourself) to preserve.
