Actually there is. It's called thermal-mass wall construction. It's the same technology / technique used in bomb shelters. It's been refined for residential, but there have been some built that have withstood cat 5's, wildfires, etc. About the only thing they won't take is a shot from a tsunami. That sucks the foundation out, any house falls down.

The wall systems are about 15% more expensive, which is a bargain compared to what y'all pay in insurance now. It's starting to get a lot of attention in the building community. There weren't any in LA or MS prior to Katrina, so no one got to evaluate them.
