I watched Dune last night in 4K glory and it was good. Special effects were pretty cool. I thought it was a bit of a slow start but picked up as the movie progressed. I wonder how long it will be before the next installment is released.
I haven't seen the original for decades so I don't remember much about it. I don't remember them having a force field (shield) protecting them during battles. Honestly I didn't really like those effects as it brought it down a notch IMHO. I'm nitpicking of course. Overall I enjoyed it. +1 for HBO Max streaming this movie. I especially like the fact that I have a subscription for free as part of my service with AT&T for fiber Internet service. |

Watched Uncut Gems on Netflix last night. It was good but made me feel stressed out the entire time. Adam Sandler did a good job, def wasn't a comedy.

Sa The Thing (1982) last night. Surprisingly good, really good actually. I love a bug movie but this was better than most.

Been wanting to watch this since March of last year. Finally got to see it. First Bond film that I tear ran down my face. Also the first Bond film that I witnessed movie-goers actually leaving the theater before the film was over. Enjoyed the film, not the best Bond movie made, especially for Craig; but I guess it was what had to be in order to do whatever the hell they plan to do after this. HUGE bond fan since I was kid. I have no concern as to what they do with the franchise from here. Let it burn. Not sure if they plan to keep Lashana, but I don't know that I'll go out of my way to watch anything they release after this.

Enjoyed Adam Sandler's "Hubie Halloween" on Netflix last night, especially since Hocus Pocus has become the over-played go-to movie for everyone.
It's got a 5.1/10 on IMDB but the wife & I love it after it came out last year. Great throwbacks to all the 90s Sandler movies

They had that big, blocky, sharp-edged shield in the original. It totally blurred the person wearing it, and I simply couldn't unsee BlockHeads when it was on. The new one is much closer to the body, and didn't seem (from fight scenes where everyone died) to be quite as effective.

I just found an example of how bad the effects were from the original. Wow, just wow. |

If I remember from the books, shields were developed to stop projectile/energy weapons. Thats why use of blades was so important in such an advanced society.
