You know you're old when.....you get off the couch last night and can barely walk. You realize you're ongoing knee problems may have taken a turn for the worst. There is no rhyme or reason, but rationalize you can't walk the dog and ask the wife to take him out. You hobble to bed and hope by the morning its all vanished.
It isn't....you contemplate jumping off the bridge on the way to work but put your shoes on and the pain has 99% gone away and you realize you will live to see another day

Jeez - What are you going to do when you're my age?

Glad you feel better.

Years of BMX racing has ruined my knees. Instead of going to the doctor to see if I should get a replacement I b!tch about it and live in discomfort then look for sympathy online.

...if you remember this add from the advertising Hall of Shame:

"A gauzy 1972 commercial for Geritol shows a handsome, middle-aged man looking into the camera as his wife, perfectly coifed and smiling, leans her head on his shoulder. She remains silent as he describes how, thanks to Geritol, she has the energy to take care of their baby all day, go to a school meeting and make a delicious dinner.

“And look at her,” he drawls. “She looks better than any of her friends.”

He then looks back at the camera and says, “My wife, I think I’ll keep her.”"

The world of "Mad Men"!

"When does the bar open at this company?"
A: Before noon. Which is extra funny because most advertising people didn't get to work before 10:30a or later.

I never did BMX racing or anything close to that, but I've walked at least 3 miles, 6 nights a week for 20 years or more. Around 10 years ago, my knees started hurting really bad. It felt like I had glass in my knees with almost every step. The pain was excruciating.

I started doing exercises for my legs, to strengthen the muscles around my knees. Squats, lunges, stair stepping. First with just body weight, then added dumbbells. Eventually the pain went away.

Don't know if your knees are too far gone for something like this to work for you but thought I'd share my story. It's a fairly common thing for people to get knee replacements these days. Hopefully you're not at that point. So you haven't been to a doctor about it? Gotten X-rays? Maybe it's time. Good luck.

Oh, you probably have some great info there. I do know I have limited improvement b/c I have had ortho twice and limited cartilage left. However, you are probably right some specific excersizing may help. I do walk a lot at work but it does not seem to help therefore I anticipate the worst.
