Nice! We spend a lot of time in Asheville and surrounding areas. My folks had a place north of Asheville, closest town was Burnsville. That was sold when my dad passed away but we own some property south of Asheville where we will build and retire in a few years.

My in-laws own 51 acres between Marion and Boone. Shortly before getting into Boone, you head West for awhile. My father-in-law farmed as a hobby. He's 68 now, but inherited the land from his father. It's beautiful up there. In the last 15 year's, people have been building these huge vacation homes around the area, and their property taxes have doubled each year for like the last 3-4 years. We sold my wife's house in the Tryon area after being married for about 5 years. We kept it as a second house, but then got an offer too good to pass on. There is a lot of money in that community, and even more now since the new equestrian center was built. I just hope the area we are in doesn't get too developed! |

So this thread has been very informative. Based on:
-very bushy tail -very fluffy pants -very squared muzzle -very chirppy -very dog like I've determined Polly has alot of Maine Coon in her.

LOL, Ron's feline doppelganger! You should see her mane after I comb her.
Forgive the horrendous pic quality. I'm overdue for a new phone. We got her from the Humane Society. A missing eye made her an unlikely candidate for adoption. I named her Polyphemus and she took to "Polly" in a flash. I had cats all my life but she’s the first to come to her name. She also brings her favorite toy (a shoestring) to me and asks to play. Another first. Also, I taught her to sit up and beg on a whim. I've seen videos of cats performing amazing tricks never had one who made me think "I bet she could do that." BTW, the shoestring thing is all her doing not mine. Polly has a boatload of high-dollar cat toys!

This is Oscar
I'm not a cat fan. I was extremely allergic my entire life. Emergency room allergic. When I first started dating my Sweetie, I was not a happy camper when I found out about Oscar. At first Oscar would be put in the basement or locked in one of the bedrooms when I visited. I would be extremely careful and put my clothes directly in the washing machine when I got home for fear of having a cat hair on my clothes and cross contaminating my house. My Sweetie is a neat freak so he always had air filters going in every room. No fabric anywhere, all hardwood and tile floors. Much to my surprise, I never had a reaction.
Fast forward, we bought a house together. I can't tell you how much I stressed over living in the house with a cat. There is a gate on the bedroom door and I do take precautions. So far so good, but I won't touch him and I'm still extremely careful. I'm not sure if there is such a thing as only being allergic to certain cats, or if it's because of all the air filters, no rugs and keeping the tile and wood floors clean. Anyway, He is a freakin riot. I feel bad - he doesn't understand why I can't touch him. And that is his couch. He is allowed on a small section of my couch that is covered with a towel.

Easier said than done. I got a cat hair in my eye once. The white of my eye literally swelled up and covered the colored part of my eye. Talk about scary. That was one of many ER visits.

He is OCD. Cracks me up. He literally barks at the bedroom door at 3:00 am because he wants to eat. And don't think you can just walk down the steps. He goes down in front of you, stops on each step until you pet him with your foot - back and forth, two swipes. He then goes to the next step and so on.

I probably shouldn't admit this, but somehow just last night it occurred to me that siamese cats are in name at least, from Siam. If they were named "Thai cats" it would have been more obvious. Doom on me forgetting a bit of history.
And I should have known better since I was taught in part at the Dept. of State by a former ambassador to Siam. |
