Twin turbo engine recall?!? Need help with decision!
I was planning on purchasing a 2008, 535xiT (wagon), with 24,000 miles on it, but found out about the recall mentioned below:
"USA Today reports that BMW will recall about 130,000 of its 2007-2010 cars with the twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engines for potential failure of their high-pressure fuel pump..." Source: http://content.usatoday.com/communit...ump-failures/1 I really like the car, but am having doubts about going through with the deal, because this car has the N54, twin-turbo engine associated with the recall. Is this a plausible reason for not buying the car or is this problem something that can be fixed easily? Any info/opinion on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

It's going to be a big headache down the road and that's why I just got rid of my 08 535xdrive. I suggest you look at something else. Audi A6 Avant ?

Isn't that interesting. I just got my '08 335xi back on Friday after being at the shop since Tuesday morning. It had to be flat-bedded into the dealer because it would not run - it started but would mis-fire and the car would shake like a leaf. The engine light came on and the area stunk of unburnt fuel. The car had been taking longer to start recently. After a couple of days the mechanics finally figured out it was the fuel pump (and one injector). Then today I find out there is a recall for that very same problem in the States. I sure hope they do a recall in Canada.

I had (as you can tell by my handle) an E92, 335i, which was a great car up until about 2 months before I sold it. I ordered my new F10 535 to replace it because I was tired of the stiff ride, not because of the engine. But then after I ordered the 5, I had the HPFP failure, causing poor running (limp-home mode) and CEL. A restart would fix the problem temporarily. Ever since they replaced the fuel pump and reprogrammed the car, it never ran right, acted weird, and I was happy to see it go. I got absolutely slammed on resale, as all of these problems and alleged recalls and known problems have really hurt these cars. Ran like a scalded cat it did, and up until then I had only a few problems (rough idle, stumbling, etc.). BMW extended the warranty on the fuel pumps to 100K miles, but if this problem persists that may not be of much consolation if you plan to keep the car for a long time.

Thanks!
To everyone who replied to my post:
I truly appreciated your comments and suggestions. Thank you! After considering your comments and my own research, I've decided, as much as I love the wagon, to give it up for now Probably will be getting a 528xi sedan for now & will consider getting a 2010 wagon with the N55 engine Enjoy the rest of the year! |

Unfortunately there are already reports of N55s with similar failures in the 2011 3 series
