There should be plenty of replacement sized batteries out there for less than $200. Disconnect negative terminal first when removing and connect positive terminal first when installing.

any good reputable Aftermarket Car Audio shop will sell you one. Go with Optima Batteries. They will install it for you.

dont go with optima batteries - you're wasting your money.

i dont care how much you spend on a battery, but its not going to last more than 48-72 months.

batteries wear out. they eventually lose the capability to hold charge.

dont let the dealer rip you off on that battery.

go to autozone, change it out. they'll even do it for you for free. in the i-drive, you can reset the battery yourself.

everyone is gonna chime in and say - oh but you need to reprogram and register the battery.

that's sorta true, and sorta not true. your car is not going to explode nor are all the electrical components going to short circuit and fry up if you dont register the battery.

people might also tell you about the smart alternator and the reprogram resets the smart alternator. yes the alternator is smart. its not going to overcharge the battery.

if you want feel like spending half a grand on a battery, by all means go and do it. but i'm telling you - batteries are batteries. switch it out just like any other car.

I went to O'Reily's and bout top grade battery for about $175.00 I think with life time warranty and paid BMW dealer $100.00 to do install with memory save. (I did not loose all saved info or have to reset active steering)

I have a 2006 550i.

I changed the battery myself with one from Autozone and it has been over year and I have had NO problems. I'm in Chicago so I get extreme heat and cold/snow.

I paid $89 or 90 for the battery.
I believe Autozone has two sizes that fit, I bought the cheaper one.
The battery is a little smaller lengthwise but the stats are better than OEM.
It fits securely in the battery compartment with no mods.

One issue: The OEM vent tube was too short to reach the vent point on the autozone battery so I went to Home Depot, bought some rubber tubing for a dollar and it worked.
