P90X Question
Hey there guys,
I've been following both of the P90X threads and I finally became motivated enough to give it a shot. Today is day three, but in a dilemma that hopefully you can help me with. The damn thing is killing me and I don't know which course of action I should take: 1) "Bring it" for as much of the video as you can before feeling faint and turn it off. 2) Do the video at their speed even if only able to do one or two reps of the last half or so. 3) Do the entire video while taking extended (we're talking 10-15 minute) breaks. I ask because I feel that Tony contradicts himself. He keeps saying to bring it yet to pause and stuff along the way. For example I did plyometrics last night and it annihilated me. I lasted about 35 minutes doing everything as much as them and then I felt like I was honestly going to pass out so I stopped the video and didn't finish because he mentioned that if your body gets cold to refrain feom continuing to prevent injury. Now I kind of feel like shit about it today since I don't think I'm doing stuff properly. Any and all opinions appreciated ! Thanks!

when i first started doing it i would just pace myself... like if tony is doing 30 reps i would do between 20-25... and just work myself up slowly, like the days i did it i would try to do one more rep from last time.. seems to work pretty good for me.

Even though Tony contradicts himself, he is letting you know to do whatever is the most comfortable thing for you to do. I personally wouldn't take extended breaks because I want to keep my heart rate up, but you can do similar reps with less weight, and just do as many pull-ups as you can, as it's really hard to try to keep up with them in that regard (wait till the corn cob pullups AHAHAHA you're dead). i try to keep up with them the best i can...and if i need to pause for those "mini-breaks" Tony likes to make reference to...i do just that. i rest just long enough so that i can jump back in and complete a few more reps. don't take too long a break though...cuz like John said you want to keep your heart rate up. also, don't sweat not being able to complete Plyo...especially in your first week. imo...it's the hardest workout in the program. |

If you start feeling dizzy or like fainting you are pushing yourself too hard. Try less reps or eating something 1-1.5 hours before you workout. Don't eat too much though, just something to give you a boost in energy. Drink recovery drinks during workout or after. I usually just sip on water and then drink a myoplex light protein drink after wards. Sometimes I have felt like passing out as well, but a few minutes after taking my myoplex I am feeling better. You can aslo take mini breaks during the work out or hit the pause button in between sets. If you watch the videos closely you will see a couple of spots where the video doenst match up, so they have to be taking more breaks than you think.

Thanks for the advice guys. I guess I just needed confirmation that it's alright not to keep up with them right off the bat.
As far as the recovery drink goes I ordered Endurox R4 from amazon but I'm still waiting for it to ship. It had pretty good reviews. I personally can't wait. Hopefully it'll give me that extra boost. Anyways I'm about to start Shoulders and Arms. Keep on bringing it!
