Can a University post your GPA to the public?
My friend's school has posted the name, student ID, college credits to date, and GPA of all the graduating and potentially graduating (walking, transfers) students.
Does this seem odd? My legal advisor (google) makes it seem like such an act would constitute a violation of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)... |

Good question. I just went to a seminar last semester on student's rights. I don't believe those are confidential. Are they posting it on school website or is it secure for other schools to look at?

I doubt they can do that (at least not to the public). That's why when professors post grades they list them by ID #'s or a special ID that is assigned to each student. If it's to potential schools then it might be legal.

I know teachers can't even discuss grades with parents of students. There is no way this could be allowed.

Once the student is over the age of 18 they are legally an adult and their information cannot be discussed without their consent. When I was in undergrad I had to sign a waiver saying if anything happened to me (i.e. serious accident or death) then my parents could retrieve information from the school about money I owed, grades, etc.

This. When I was a freshman, I had to sign a form for my mom saying it's ok for her to be in the counselors office while we are discussing my schedule. Pretty stupid IMO.
