that's a rendering of an Epic/Scarlet configuration. probably Scarlet since the brain module looks too thin to be an Epic.

you're looking at a modular digital still and motion camera. everything is a la carte. everything is compatible with everything in the system.
you buy a brain [sensor] module. you buy a recording module, battery, viewing, remote, audio, output modules, lens mounts, accessories and put them all together anyway you need to, as you need to.
the brain/sensor modules range from small 2/3" sizes to 36x24mm sizes to medium format 4x6cm and super large 17cm sizes. resolutions from 3K to 9K and 28K for the panarama sensor. and super high-speed frame rates up to 350fps in full HD.

and they'll eat you.

350fps! .. slow motion shots eh. umm, so it's kinda like bmw, everything's in packages and options. must cost a butt load once you start adding stuff on it.

but the 350fps is for the big one. expect to pay $40K+ for the brain alone.

some of the scarlet's will pull 120fps at 2K, though.

M3 or Epic, is more like it.

the fixed zoom-lens scarlet (max 72fps and 3K resolution on 2/3" sensor), should be about $4000, without extra accessories.
they took the initial pricing down, but it ranged from $4k, $7k, $12k, to $25k, $35k up to $65k. there's a brain for everybody. ;]

we'll see what their "schedule" tells when it's announced tomorrow.

The image circle of the HVX is 1/3" Ths scarlet 2/3's sensor is more like a Varicam which is still less than half that of the Red One.

I hate that progress on the Scarlet and Epic are so slow. I put a deposit down on Red One a couple of years ago and while waiting red announced the Scarlet. So I figured I would wait for the Scarlet S35 or FF..and I waited.

Then last year I picked up one of the first 5DmkII's and after using it on a few shoots, I made it my first pick for my productions. The only light my HPX-500 ever gets now is the occasional rental.

I am now wondering if Red will ever release the Scarlet. 2 years and not even a working prototype? Canon is now rumored to have a EOS sensor in a XL2 style body by the spring and if they do, I will certainly pick that up. I hear it might even shoot raw as well.

I really would like to have the Red Scarlett if it comes to life with the specs they are promising. The name alone would make my work easier considering now explaining to clients that I'm going to shoot their TV spot on a still camera.

ha. fuck that. $28k to beta test? no thanks. although it would be cool to have Jim and Jarred's personal cell numbers.

we have camera #180, so once they start the "ready" notifications (by serial number), we'll be getting ours. we're thinking about doing "stage 2" - get the Epic-X and upgrading our R1 to the new sensor.
if they start shipping the beta's pretty soon, we may have ours by February? I dunno. Definitely not counting on it. Just waiting patiently. Our Red is serving us well enough.
