How to negotiate when buying a car ...

How do you guys start off ?

Ex. 2007 Bmw 335i.. 6-speed, ax/red, navi , spt pkg , 55k miles.

ASKING PRICE $28,495.

They just got the car on the lot, i offered them $24k right now out the door. It was a trade in, the front and rear bumper need to be repainted becasue of scratches etc.. also its out of warranty.. i believe its a fair price.. but the sales man said he cant do that price since the car JUST got on the floor and his manager belives it will sell for more. He said if it isnt sold soon he will give me a call...

So... that leads me to believe that he did buy the car WAY under 24k becasue he considered that price, he obvioulsy looked up what they own it for.. and when i said 24k out the door he seemed willing but not his manager..

i really do like the car.. and i really doubt anyones going to pick that car up anytime soon.. ive been in the market for a while and ive seen the same three 335i that ive considered on sale for over 3-4 months..

i really like this one.. but i dont feel like it would be a good deal at 28k... for a 54k miles 335i...

and suggestions ? should i wait a month and call back ?

Id like some advice from people in sales.. thanks.

Not sure about the price but the mileage is way too high for a two year old car , IMO.

No matter what kind of deal you get, beware of expensive repair costs if you don't have a good warranty on the car.

I will never walk on a lot and negotiate. I now get all my approvals online and have it all picked out prior so that when I do go to the dealer. I simply give down payment, sign papers and drive off. Easy, Peasy, lemon squeezy....

Send Big Tony in and make them an offer they can not refuse

Other than that:

Why so many miles? If it was used as a rental or something like that you'll be better off not buying it. No warranty is also a corncern.

that milage will be abig factor when you try to re sell it...but if the car car checks out, maybe u can offer the 24 AND buy the bmw extended car serviceso maybe itll be 27 out the door but with a 3-4 yr full bmw warranty? maybe thats an option

Well you always start off low...and if it is a place you've been buying from before, I'd tell them that after the first offer, and ask them to reconsider.

Then, I would tell them about the high miles, no warranty, show them known problems...and ask them if they would reconsider...if not bump it up by $500 and if not then....walk out...and look elsewhere.

However, 24k for a car like that...not sure you'll get that price but also, the car has some serious mileage and no warranty = yikes!
