Good luck and have fun!
Give us an update on how you did...how you liked the event. I've seen ads for R&R marathons, and they sound pretty cool. That's great you can run that far. I can run 10K now, and wondering if I could handle training up to run a half.

What an event!!!!
I finished, and Im still alive to tell the story . Its a great racing event. Bands every mile or so as your running, plenty of water stations and 'misting' stations throughout the course... There was someone who was trying to make the kenyan national team and had to run the half marathon in 1hr 1 min or less to qualify Raceday was a little warm (about 87 degrees F at the finish of the race), but other than that, a success... I ended up running in 2h 21m which wasnt bad for my first race. I was shooting for 2:15, was running on the 2h pace for the first half of the race, but hit a brick wall at 11.5 miles. All in all, a good day... Mike, do you do races such as these in your training??? Last edited by bavarian19; 09-03-2006 at 07:18 PM.. |

Congrats! That is a serious accomplishment!!
How much weight did you lose?? Do you have another race in mind?? lol...The most I've ever run is 10 miles. You officially kicked my butt!! My 10 mile run was about 1 1/2 ago when I was training. I was running about 35 miles a week. I was training the to run one mile competitively, not any long distances. My coach told me to run 10K and 5K races to keep a strong pace as part of my training, but not to win it. I'm running about 15 miles a week these days, but no races currently planned. BTW, my coach has run in 5 Olympic trials for the marathon. He has personal records of 2:14 for the marathon and 3:54 for one mile and God knows what else.

I actually dont have a scale at home... I go by how much it looks like I lost . I probably lost only about 5 lbs during my whole training. I put on some serious leg muscle in the training process, so I didnt lose overall mass, but lost a few lbs of fat... I was thinking about training for the rock and roll full marathon in san diego in june. One of the members of our running group at the half marathon (there was 8 of us) had run it this past year... strongly suggested it... Plus I have a buddy of mine who has just moved out to san diego... Im sorry, but I misquoted the guy tying out for the national team... He was kenyan. I was absolutely baffled at what time he had to run this half marathon in... but it was completely flat (if thats any justification for that really low time). The time he had required him to average 4:40 miles... insane... |

Because the Marine Corp Marathon is in a month . I need some time to recover from this one... Plus San Deigo is almost guaranteed perfect running conditions. Usually much cooler than what I ran in yesterday.... |

Haa... thanks... Believe it or not, it really feels like you run into a wall... Its like the body tries to shut down... Last year at the race, they passed out an energy gel at mile marker 10. I have never used the gel before, but apparently it does wonders for your energy level... They didnt pass it out at the race this year, and a few people were very dissapointed... I probably could have gotten much closer to that 2:15 mark if I didnt start to shut down... |
