E60 520d alternator or battery issue?

Battery light appeared in my dash last night, wasn’t consistent at first and then started pinging off more consistent. My lights started flickering, gave it a run to see if that would charge up and fix the issue which it didn’t, I parked up as I had several different warnings all start appearing and the car was going mad, the car totally just turned off and was unable to regain power or start it up. The lights were flickering and just before it turned off completely the dash went up with something about having the car lifted up?

Got someone to come and jump start it with leads, has to do it a few times but it worked, got the car running for about 3 minutes and lost power again and went off. I believe this isn’t a issue with the battery but the alternator? My belt was due to be getting done this month as it had a slight rip in it.

Would this be right? Any help or advice greatly appreciated, will be getting car dealt with end of this week.

A simple voltage check should reveal a lot of info. The alternator should be putting out ~14v. Not running, a fully charged battery around 12.6.
A load tester is even more effective, but you need a fully charged battery.

If the battery is 5 years or older it can be highly suspect. Problems that start as the weather gets colder are usually battery related.
