tailight issue

i just bought an 08 e60 and am now having issues with my driver side taillight. the back turn signal went out first and now the whole thing went out. i took the components out and cleaned under the aluminum because it was sparking. i currently have floresent lights back there and they are not burnt out but they will not work. any suggestions or ideas?

The contacts of the tail light does get too hot when the oxidation increases the resistance. If not cleaned in time the plastic melts and ruins the bulb base. No other way than to replace the taillight.
