BST cable

I got e60 530d series.. recently I replaced battery. When tried to start the car I noticed that there was no power to start the car but lights AC were on. Later I saw the BST cable mechanism was disconnected. When & How ? I don’t know. As usual i tried push connector firmly & I got fire temporarily. I could start the car without any problem. Later i studied about BST & got to know so much information.
I don’t know how & when BST got disconnected? Is BST blown? How do I know whether it is blown or not ? I didn’t see any black this around connector. How this original BST looks like ? If it’s blowned how to identify?
Please clarify my questions
