So apparently I can no longer park straight

This is some weird arse shit. We have three cars, and in the last 3 months I cannot seem to park any of them straight. If entering forwards I am not too bad but if I reverse in I am all over the place, as in I get out and the car is at all sorts of angles, way off square.

NFI what it is but it's come outta nowhere and I've no idea what is causing it.

Very weird, I have been feeling the same thing.

We got another E46 earlier this year. Every time I line up with one mirror the other is crooked. I thought it was just something weird with that one, but now I feel like I am having issues in others cars. . .

Sounds like the usual disorientation that people from the antipodes suffer from after a while when they move across the equator.....

In the past three months have you either:

- Abstained from alcohol?
- Got new / better eyeglasses or contacts?

You can confess that you can`t park straight anymore even if your life depended on it, or you can admit that you are getting old and you can`t park straight anymore

With me it's depth perception. I used to be very good at judging the distance to anything in front of my car, or whether or not I could fit into a space or gap. Not any more. I had to install a laser parking aid in my garage so I don't pull too far forward.

There's the old fashioned way; tennis ball on a string hitting the windshield.

I have those in my garage. The problem is that the garage is full and they are just hanging off to the side as decoration

Well then, put some lights on them and you get a head start on Christmas decorations.

This actually happened to me a few times recently, when parking in reverse. Not sure if it is going to be a continuing issue yet.

Stream has been iffy for decades.

I use the old-old fashioned way. Just drive in until you hear the crunch, and then back up a few inches.

Seriously though, I only had a garage once in my life...and my Jeep CJ-7 hardtop was hanging from the rafters as a guide when pulling in.....

I have some shelves in my garage (passenger side) and I stop when my eyeballs line up with the first shelf. Been doing it the same for 33 years come this December, never made a mistake.

vreihen16, I read where you said you have cataracts; why don't you get that taken care of. Will make a world of difference with your vision. Have had cataract lenses in my eyes for many years and can see great.

Insurance issues?

The way the hips are on the M2 it does throw me off as well, and I haven't learned to use or trust the lines on the reverse camera screen. In the mirrror you have to sight off the door handle through the fender, and I tend to crab in unneccessarily. On the plus side, no traded paint with the garage in 3 years. Keep meaning to put up a tennis ball type minder, currently with the 2x4 on the floor.

My now-late mechanic friend used to use a similar method with his two-post lifts. Most cars have their center of gravity midway between the sideview mirrors, so he would pull onto the lift with those mirrors aligned with the lift posts.

I used a similar reference when backing the race car hauler into the driveway (sometimes after dark). I aligned the rearview mirror of The Mighty Dodge to the fence post at the far end of our yard, cut the steering wheel full left, shifted into reverse, and the trailer would magically wind up in the center of the driveway with zero drama.

The electronic plot complication in my chest keeping me alive scares local eye doctors, and they won't do the surgery. They referred me to the regional trauma center that installed said gizmo for eye surgery. It's over an hour away from home, and I can't drive myself there because all routes are NY State parkways that discriminate against almost-Mighty Freightliners. (Remember, I'm otherwise car-less because of unplanned involuntary retirement.)

Even worse, my DW is starting a new job tomorrow morning (yay!), so she has no PTO (boo!) to spend more than half a day driving me there and back more than once.

I've got bigger medical problems to fry right now, like worsening tremors and random vertigo attacks sending me diving for soft furniture.....

^ You take care of yourself and I hope you're able to get it done sooner rather than later.

BTW, that was my second guess; a health issue (sorry to hear).

I've hung a tennis ball to hit the windshield for my wife and I. however I have shelving that I've hit a few times with my passenger mirror which fortunately has PPF or I would have scratched the CF caps.
