Dashboard pad coming undone at seam
My 2020 X5 M50i is having the leather lift off the dash where the dash meets the front windshield. Talked to a local upholstery shop and they said it can’t really be repaired. Needs a replacement. Called my dealer and they want an eye watering 5k for the part and that doesn’t include labor. Car is out of warranty.
Anyone have some creative ideas? I was even thinking of getting some black flex tape and putting it over the area. I don’t want it to look too horrible but I want it to stop from coming apart more. Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance |

Been happening to all German leather dashboards for decades.
You don't give a location but I'll bet you have more than a few months of sun and you don't garage your BMW. |

It’s in sunny Florida. It’s garaged at night but spends the day cooking in the sun.

Hello OP,
Contact BMW USA and ask them if they will cover the cost as with a courtesy repair. Our dash was warping and developing bubbles on our 2018 650i and they paid for 85% of the cost. We had the new dash installed a few months ago. Never hurts to ask. Ralph |

Your suggestion is definitely the correct approach. If you don’t ask you never receive! 👍🏻
The OP should definitely tell BMWNA that this shouldn’t be happening to a 2020 model and stress that point!!! 😡 |

It never hurts to get BMW involved. Usually works best to arrange it through your selling dealership and let them schedule you for the DSM on his next visit. Good luck. |

Afterwards you need to get and regularly use one of these.
I’m 1 mile up and the sun is brutal here (yes, more than FLA, lol). Keeps my interior MUCH cooler and my Alcantara unfaded. You’d have been better off if you did something about this right away early on…instead of letting it get this bad… |

If BMW says no and dependent on how good, you want it to look. Maybe take it to a place to get the windshield replaced because of the damage "wink-wink" and have it repaired before the new one is installed. Should be easy access without the wind screen.
Less of a project, is getting some strong adhesive/contact cement and "Gently" wedge something against it to dry overnight. Sort of what pikk said

I had a leather dash in my F15 and although it looked nice, living in the South just isn't a good match for that. If you do rock it, definitely use a sun shade.
