Apple all the way. I've used too many windows machines. The fragmentation and just overall sloppiness of the OS is a turn off. I still use windows at work, and its nothing but problems. Brand new machines that up to 10 minutes just to restart, which you need to do all the time, because something drops offline, for no reason. My 2013 MacBook air, still restarts, and logs in, in about 25 seconds. I bought a 2019 Macbook Pro and it was everything I wanted it to be, but it quickly had its drawbacks, and that was the Intel Chipset. I just bought a 2021 Macbook Pro, yesterday, and picked it up, today. I've yet to even take it out of the box, but watching everything, online about them, its going to be magic.
They say apple doesn't innovate. I would check out their new M1 Processors. I don't think anything comes close, right now, especially in a laptop. It just works when I want it to work. I've had every iteration of iPhone. I stood in line, in 2007, for the first iPhone, and that's when the phone was only on AT&T (actually Cingular,) and was still $699 WITH contract. The cameras are great, and they just do what you need them to do.

Oooo Ooooo Ooooo, am I the first jack wagon to mention Linux!?
But in all seriousness, use what's most convenient for you. I've been hearing of a lot of compatibility issues with Win11, Win10 I've never really had a problem with (my gaming rig). I've got a Chromebook, which is convenient for some things I do. I've also just installed Debian on a laptop my mother destroyed by watching her foreign soap operas from shady sites. Let me tell ya, there was no saving that one w/o a fresh install of SOMETHING! lol You do you brother, who cares what random people on a message board think. |

wow still rolling along this thread.
again this is just for DD, who now spends most of her time on roeblocks ? or however it's spelt. I'm taking her win10 machine, I'm kinda used to it my work win10 machine is also fine, I still prefer win7, but most new software wont run on it. I'm still not sure whether to get her an apple, I can't support her on it, although I suspect her tech support skills would be much better than mine ! |

I work in IT, and was a Windows only user until Win 10. Win 10 just seems to have too many problems and break too many things with it's updates. I'm honestly not sure if Win 11 is better, as we don't have many machines at work running it.
I have since switched to Apple, and my main home machine and my work laptop are both Macbooks and I've been much happier. Don't get me wrong, Apple has it's issues, but I find there to be less drama while using them.

For home use I have a iMac. Have had it for 11 years and it never freezes up on me. I have an external hard drive because I've run out of space on the internal drive. Every Windows PC I've had always froze up on me, and they never lasted more than three years.
At my office unfortunately I have to run Windows based PC's because most of the medical software is written for the POS Windows platform. I'm constantly having driver problems and have to restart computers on a daily basis. I also hate that whenever there is a software or driver upgrade, that I have to have my IT person log in and reset stuff that I don't understand. I'm due to replace my server and workstations and I'm not looking forward to it.

I have been using Apple hardware and software since the late 80s. Never had any problems like a hack or similar. I've also been in Apple's developer program for almost 20 years and therefore also use beta software, which has never made me have to reset a computer, for example. Am in advertising therefore much with Adobe and Microsoft programs under Apple Os on the road, without problems. Windows 7 - 10 I use on 2 Windows laptops. E.g. for coding BMW's :-) But constantly are updates and new drivers, then sometimes this or that does not work. Do not really warm up to Windows

You forgot Linux. I use all three with regularity and they're all garbage in their own special ways.
On phones iOS is superior for actually being a phone, but is terrible in terms of doing stuff like DNS level blocking of ads unless you jailbreak and then break everything. Android used to be better but now everyone buys Samsung garbage phones and nobody bothers to root them since you essentially get to choose between bank apps and literal home automation control apps or rooting. On the desktop side of things, OSX is vastly superior to Linux these days because systemctl has now shit up the entire space with pottering's insane desire to turn POSIX environments into this monolotic garbage that means things like log files are now binary instead of just flat text files. Systemd has encroached on everything linux and it's worse because of it. Windows has continued to degrade and Microsoft continues to be more and more abusive to it's userbase. First with telemetry and all of the spying it does, and then further with things like embedding ads in explorer then saying whoops we didn't mean to do it. They do things like shit up their control panels, lock down the ability to use group policy to disable their annoying auto update reboot feature and a litany of other things. In summary, everything is getting worse. I see a future in which ads are embedded into the UI of the OS with next gen TPM being the arbiter of what's authorized or not authorized. I see them tracking every single thing you click on, how long you took to click on it, and monetizing it. I see UIs continuing to degrade to the lowest common denominator (apple) to appease the modern zoomer generation who has no idea how filesystems work. The future is gonna be wild.

I don't personally have a macbook, but most of my colleagues have one and I would recommend one to anyone who wants basic home use or office things.
If you game however then windows is a requirement. |
