It's not me. The last time I climbed a tower was in 69/70 when I was in Vietnam. Our tower was "only" 84 feet in height, but we had the added feature of snipers. I guess a fall from 84 feet can just barely kill you, but...

Tx. Oh ya, I know, I'd like to think that I'm a bit more perceptive than that. Some of these other folks though

This is a pic I took back in the late 70's in Korea. I was laying across the floor of a Huey leaning out to grab this shot. Follow the rope down to the two GI's in the center of the pic. That was a fun day.

Most of us were nearly shittin' Kimchi. One of those things that's very cool and scary AF at the same time.

I know what you mean. I look back at the things we did in the Army, and like Cheech & Chong once said, "Wow, did I do that?!"

I guess our counterpart to Kimchi was Nuoc Mam. Jeepers, did that shit stink!

And BTW, I have quite a bit of time in UH-1. Heh!

I bet you have some hours. The was one tough workhorse of a chopper. I spent my first 4 assignments in the Air Cav and spent many hours in the Huey and in the front seat of an OH-58 Kiowa. I even have a couple of hours of stick time in a Cobra. Now that's a sweet ride.

Then I got assigned to the ground Cav and never sat my butt in a helicopter again.

I've also flown on the OH-6 and CH-47 Chinook. The UH-1 and CH-47 could sling-load our radar system into some pretty crummy places that we couldn't reach with our trucks. I particularly didn't care for unloading our stuff inside the CH-47 while the pilots had the rotors and engines continously spun up for a possible quick departure if we started receiving gun fire. It was friggin' hot at the ramp on an already hot day.

The OH-6 rides were a real hoot, usually at very low altitude and hauling ass. My most memorable ride in the OH-6 was when I returned to my team in field after facing a promotion board back at our base camp. The pilot flew about 20 off the ground most of the time, occasionally pulling up to clear a some trees, then back down on the deck. Meanwhile, a captain-rank dude in the right front seat was popping 40mm grenades into shacks with his M-79. It was a real trip, but I was glad to get off that chopper.

Love the OH-6. Cool looking helicopter. Never had the pleasure of flying in one, though. But I've done lots of terrain following (Nap of the Earth) flying. Loads of fun.
