Heart palpitations?

While exercising has anyone ever experienced heart palpitations which stopped you dead in your tracks and took hours to clear up?

I've had my heart skip a beat here and there while working out. I've talked to my doctor about it and it's nothing to be concerned about as long as it doesn't happen often. I didnt have it take hours to go away. If that happens i suggest going to the emergency room just in case. Hopefully you are fine but you should just have your doctor do a heart evaluation, which usually involves putting a monitor on while you workout and maybe for a couple of days.

So the place you want to seek answers about having a heart issue is an online forum? You'd get a faster response on FB.

Man, your heart is the engine that keeps you a live. If this was your car and it started sputtering and stopped, for even a brief second, you'd probably stop driving and get to a mechanic.

Get yourself to an ER and have your heart looked at. The next time may be a widow maker.

I've got runners arrhythmia that pops up from time to time but it doesn't stop my workout. My heart beat just jumps around for a second or two then back to normal. I'd definitely go take a stress test and see if they can shed more light on it. That's how my condition was diagnosed.

Sometimes when someone asks a question like that, it is assumed that the problem has happened to the person asking the question. Mea culpa.

Either way, asking for medical advice on an forum isn't the best idea. That's all I was trying to convey.

Glad it wasn't you who may have possibly been having an arrhythmia.

And no, I've never had any issues with my heart thankfully.

To the OP: no I haven't.

More generally, I think it's a good thing to discuss medically-oriented topics on discussion sites like this. I believe the vast majority of people asking for input on these topics are smart enough to consider the comments received not as medical advice, but rather as from peers sharing life experience.

I also believe that the vast majority of people posting comments are not attempting to give medical advice, but rather are sharing their life experiences.

Lastly to the original question, if I had this type of question about myself, I would purchase an at-home device like the Kardia Mobile EKG. The basic version is less than $100, and a higher level device is under $150. The device flags abnormalities, and the EKG trace can be sent to a cardiologist for an a la carte one-off consultation, or as part of a monthly subscription service. I have the basic Kardia device, and plan to purchase the higher level device at some point in the not too distant future.

It happens to me before because it's been a while since I did an intense workout. I actually thought that I won't be able to make it up to 2 hours but luckily I did.

Used to happen to me with preworkout, Jacked. Did the whole monitor test thing for a day but never showed on results. Cut out the preworkout and they went away.

Ya. Too much coffee. 4-5 cups/day for over a decade caught up with me.

sometimes depending on if i took extra preworkout or had a lot of caffeine or drank heavily the day before. Or when back in college wed mix preworkout with nose candy. But man did you have a great workout.

Ive been to the dr about it, it never replicates itself when i go, even when they have me run on the treadmill. My dr thinks its because i drink a lot, but can you really trust them?

No, and I'm concerned for you. EKGs are quite cheap, I would definitely recommend you get one as no matter what anyone else here says, it's not normal for you to experience this.

you might have exercise induced SVT. supraventricular tachycardia. it can often be exercise induced. hard to pick up on an ekg since its random, you can talk to your doc about getting a holter monitor to wear for a week. i would at the very least see your primary about an EKG to start off with

its not really that serious. you can try doing a valsalva maneuver next time it happens to see if it fixes it.

but it could be something else. i'm a doc but this is a forum and i don't know your medical history.

Ya, I went down that road. All is good. Ultimately I just had to cut back on the coffee.

This. Too strong coffee and too often doesn't mix well with keep fit,I keep to green lemon tea or normal tea in the morning and have the odd cup of instant coffee on Sundays as a rule.
