Photo scanner

hi all!

I have some old vintage photos that I'd like to scan in for keepsake and sharing. These are of all sorts of sizes and since some are from the 70's. I'm working on a project to get all of my parents pictures digitized so we can store them rather than those HUGE photo albums.

What's the best photo scanner out there to help me with this?

Bumping this into the present, as I had the exact same question. I have a mixture of old photos, and slides. Is there any use to trying to do slides on a typical flatbed with adapter, or will I need a dedicated unit for those?

I think that a mid range flatbed scanner is plenty for such a project. Years ago, I bought an Epson scanner and it's done well for under $250. There should be plenty of quality options out there and perhaps simply mounting a print flat and shooting it with a macro lens can yield an acceptable file to start your restoration with.
