Arrow ► Rolex Sea Dweller Deepsea (SDDS) 126660

hi guys, i am finally planning on buying my long awaited sea dweller deep sea this year (126660). my first big watch purchase and i am so excited .
i have been reading various posts from different forums on the best way to buy, but since we got a watch section and some watch pros here, wanted to ask as well.

rolex site msrp: $12,900
would it be realistic to walk into an ad and be able to buy this watch for msrp or $13,000?

davidsw: $15,000 - $15,500
(no tax - ship out of state)
rave reviews many happy customers but significant mark up compared to other sources.

chrono24: $14,500 - $15,000
(no tax - ship out of state)
seems you can find from trusted verified sellers with less mark up.

i do travel often and also exploring buying overseas.

bangkok duty free: $13,500 (vat refund included)
i have to pick up at duty free counter in airport. i am worried about declaring it when i return to us and paying tax, potentially wiping out any savings. the price above is from my last visit and currency exchange in december 2019.

bangkok regular store: ???
i have not been to a regular ad in bangkok. since this is a regular store, i am pretty sure i will be able to get a vat refund of 7%. if i am able to get the watch for $13,500 - 7% vat refund = $12,555 - vat processing fee.

rolex canada site msrp: 15,300 CAD ($11,505 USD):
hey why not, its only a few hour drive from new york. if i walk into an ad, will i be able to get one at msrp or slighty above? i don't think i will have any problem bringing the watch back across border. worst case scenario, i can ship the box to my house and just wear the watch back.

europe: ???
i plan on going to spain later in the year and can advantage of 15% vat. still have same question though on walking into an ad and buying the watch for near msrp. also question of declaration when i return back to the states.

any additional thoughts? i am 99% sold on the blue dial but still have an itch on the classic black .

If you find one at an AD anywhere, buy it. As a matter of fact, if you find ANY stainless sport model at an AD, BUY IT. I will buy it from you if you don't want it. ADs cannot charge higher than MSRP and I have been stopping in every AD I pass by for the last 2 years and none of them have had a SS sport model.

I have bought multiple Rolex from DavidSW. Awesome seller and trustworthy.

BTW, are you getting the James Cameron version or the black one? I am in the market for a 126660 D Blue.

So if you want to buy in Canada, call ahead and check the price and availability. As far as wearing it across the border, you can. I suspect you'll be paying with a credit card, stuff like that get's flagged so you may end up getting caught and having to pay Duty, also be aware the sales tax HST is 13% in Canada. Happy shopping.

Sales tax is only 13% in some areas. My area is only 5% GST.

He said he's driving up from NY, so I assumed Ontario, it's 14.975% in Quebec

I didn't think the sea dweller was being marked up. I thought the thickness may be the reason - not saying not desirable.

The blue dial Cameron you have to see n person very impressive. Been a longtime since I've seen a deep sea in a showroom usually have to order and I'm not far from Annapolis...

The black DSSD is not marked up on the grey market. The Blue is, but not nearly as bad as a Daytona.

For what it's worth, I don't think the Sea Dweller Deep Sea is Rolex's best effort. I think the original Sea Dweller is a better choice, I'm biased though having worked in the commercial diving industry and I know one of the guys that worked for Comex.

Would agree unless have gorilla arms the deep sea is pretty thick and less versatile for dressier wear.

I liked the Dblue but the bracelet was too narrow for the bulky case. That's why I am looking for a 126660 Dblue to try out. I think the wider bracelet with the same case size will be a hit for me.

Beautiful watch. But do not buy it gray over msrp. I've been able to score a panda and a batgirl in December alone just through luck and persistence.

youre welcome...

Takuya, selling in the 2nd listing, is a very well known 2nd hand dealer.

The bigger SS Sport Models are more easily attained at an AD vs a Sub or GMT. You shouldnt be paying much of a premium, if any, for this.

GL OP. Your chances will be slim unless you have a relationship with a AD or buy from a 3rd party place marked up.
As far as Europe, I was in paris, geneva(flagship store) a month ago. There's no SS there. Only two tones which are not desirable. I doubt spain will be any better

I went to my Rolex dealer today. Most of his cases were empty. He said he had less than 30% of his normal stock. No SS sport models. He did have one Yacht Master in stock.

I am glad I got my Rolex’s several years ago.

The dssd is relatively small by modern standards. Yes, it is big for a Rolex. It is also pointless to critique a sports watch for limited use with dress clothes. Its a sport watch after all, not a dress watch better worn with jeans and polo than suit.

Dont think modern standard should be the benchmark. Sizes are coming down for some time and big thick oversized watches are not gonna stand against the test of time.

it wears smaller than the tudor black bays. Kind of between a sub c and a black bay.

Not with 17.7mm thickness never would consider over 15 even that's a brick.
