Sober October
I’m sure we have some other Rogan/podcast fans here.
Is anyone else doing a version of sober october? A couple of buddies and I drank a bit too much one night in September and decided to do Sober October. So far so good. |

I did a Whole30 cleanse last year and found it interesting but I don't feel it's necessary for me. Although, I did feel a certain sense of empowerment from not drinking for a month.

I'm sober year round these days. This was absolutely not the case for the past 20 years. Just kinda grew out of the habit. Always enjoyed inebriation of some form, but now days I hate feeling like shit the day after.

I'm doing it, why not. Joe Rogan is doing the WHOOP thing.
I drink less now than years past anyway. My wife had a stroke a year ago and blood thinners don't mix well with alcohol. We, in general, consume a lot less.

If nothing else you learn a little about yourself and your habits, and to prove that you don't need to do it. I am happy (relieved? ) to report that I have had absolutely no problem, I was in the habit of drinking a couple of beers (or something) most days of the week (probably 5). I think I did it out of habit, and as a punctuation to the day. The 'work' is done and the proof of that is cracking a beer open, usually after the kids are in bed and the house is quite, or after working on a project during the weekend. One of the guys doing this with me is in the same boat as me, no issue. The other one never wants to do this again. If nothing else giving the system a little time to cleanse and losing a couple of pounds can't be a bad thing. |

I fall off the wagon every 2 weeks, when the other tech goes on call.
I'll have a sniff of something neat every couple of nights during the week. Friday after soccer I need some "apple juice" after the game. Saturday and Sunday dinners I'll have 1-4 drinks, usually at least a double each. Now, giving up caffeine was the real challenge. The last time I completely got off, I was in the hospital for a week with a morphine drip. |

no matter your age, who actually does? feeling hungover is like death. and i'm not even a drinker. thats the one thing i dont get about people who drink EVERY weekend, like how is the day after enjoyable? i guess seasoned drinkers have their own tricks etc. |

I think the seasoned vets are either just used to feeling like this all the timem their body has adapted or they just get drunk to get over feeling like death. Aside from feeling like shit the day after, my ex-wife drank daily; to the point of embarrassment for all involved. I think part of my not drinking has something to do with that on some subconscious level.

freshman year was great for that, i sadly can text very cohesively when i'm drunk. was the embarrassment on a comparable level of a "i really want to bang you your ass is just lovely" text to a girl you've been hanging with? |

I have done ‘dry January’ the last couple years. I am a social drinker. It is surprising to me how often people (including me) can find an excuse to drink alcohol. Until you really try to abstain there is always a reason to drink…friends came over, football game, dinner with the wife…on and on. Until you really consciously stop, you don’t realize how much you really may drink.
Stopping once a year is enough for me. I am not going to do ‘sober October’ too. I really enjoy a good drink every now and then! |

Her type of embarrassment consisted of taking her shirt off in the parking lot of a restaurant, after having too much to drink, because it was my shirt and she was mad at me for asking her not to fall all over people in the restaurant. Literally stripped down to her bra, while yelling what a piece of shit I am and throwing a tantrum like a 2 year old with people everywhere. This happened because I wanted to take her out to a nice dinner. That level of embarrassment. |
