Those are tiny. I'm talking about a decent 3500+ sq ft home on a decent lot. Not one with a junkie sleeping on the sidewalk.

3500+ ft in SoCal is "decent"? How many kids do you have?

My thoughts exactly, 3500+ sq ft is a decent size house in the midwest, let alone on the coast.

We downsized from 3500+ ft to ~1700 ft and I couldn't be happier. No more rooms we don't use full of furniture purchased just so those unused rooms weren't empty.

Well, we don't have kids - hell, we don't even have a dog.

The cat doesn't take up much room.

3 beds, 2 baths = Our owner's suite, an office for me, an office for her and a hall bath for guests to use.

The Peleton and the Bowflex are in the basement (as is the laundry).

Now a ~2000/ft Eichler in Sunnyvale would be awesome, if we won the lottery...

You guys need to come to TX, no income tax and costs approx 150-200/ft to build custom new.

Here's just under 500k new construction with 4-car garage about 45-50 mins commute to downtown Dallas...
https://www.zillow.com/homes/13842-F...49773679_zpid/

1m will get you the same type of house with double the sqft, tradeoff is the property taxes are high here

Yep, we need just a bit more for the kids. Bedroom for each, shared office and master suite. Once the kids are gone, switch one over to a guest room and the other to second office/workout room.

Eichlers are nice to look at, but I don't know if I'd want to live in one. The ones in Sunnyvale certainly aren't cheap!

No Eichlers anywhere are cheap. Not even the one or two in upstate NY. Sunnyvale and most of the Bay area is just bonkers to me. I don't know how "normal" families do it.

Same here. Now that we are "empty nesters" ....we plan one more move which would be our final home. I'm figuring 1800sqft at most if laid out and equipped nicely.

Now I'm not adverse to having a garage that is bigger than the house....but that is just me.

Yeah, it wouldn't be enough space without the basement. We need some conditioned space for the workout equipment and laundry. If this house was on a crawl or a slab, it'd be too small.

No Eichlers here in Seattle (that I know of) but there were a few architects in the 60s who were heavily influenced by the work he did. My wife and I live in one such house and absolutely love it.

That isn't true at all. Snobbery at best. I hate traffic and crowds. I have no urge to live in a heavily populated area. Maybe that suits you, but don't assume it's true for everyone.

IMO, there is nothing in CA that justifies living in a million dollar shack over living in a mansion just about anywhere else.

Only from reading and viewing this seems to be a very good deal, I bite.
What I don't get, are the endprices listed including all taxes and fees or do I have to add them, depending on the state?
If we're buying here, the price is incl. tax at official buy, when buying private don't. After that the fees for lawyer, statedocuments and other legal things have to be paid, normal from the buyer. Than you have to pay annual tax for your ground, depends on value of the area and size of your area.

Cliff May? He was another fantastic mid century pre fab builder. I know he did homes in CO, not sure if he built in the PNW.
