Yesterday was the anniversary of the execution of Nathan Hale. They guy who said "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country."

Famous in America. I don't know about anywhere else.

It's also the 100th anniversary of the deadliest battle in US history. 26,000 American soldiers lost their lives in France during the 1918 Meuse-Argonne offensive.
