I was just watching a live came of the beach and saw a family walk buy Mom, Dad and kids probably 8-10 years old.

Amazing.

On the one hand, it is clear that a good climate allows you to do so. But on the other hand, in these places there are hurricanes and these hurricanes often destroy houses.
Why not build a normal house: made of brick, concrete, aerated concrete and so on?
Answer: Cost

A lot of Americans buy standardized home designs that are engineered to provide a lot of home for the money. When you get into custom home builders you'll see much more robust construction.

Even a concrete block constructed home, which is less susceptible in a storm than wood frame, can suffer destruction in a storm. Losing a roof or getting flooded from storm surge or localized flooding can cause major damage or even total loss. Building codes evolve and improve, but natural disaster-proofing a home is not financially feasible for all homes.

We are in the path. My garage is packed with patio shit. Beefed up the seals on my patio door. Hoping no flooding.

Man, have they gone downhill.
Their official response was 'he was on slippery wet grass and obviously exhausted'.

That was pretty funny. TWC lives for this. It's like their Super Bowl so they tend to be over dramatic. But, this is a bad storm because of the stalling and all the rain. I'm just amazed how people refused to evacuate and then they're calling for help. Morons.

Trump is down there now I think. Is he throwing around paper towels like he did in Puerto Rico?

How else do you keep our economy going if you are not rebuilding stuff.

Brick house get trashed as well, now concrete may hold up, then you have the issue the Europe and other palaces have, it a bitch to modify the home later as things change.
