"Reach" only increases if pixel-density increases. The Canon 7D MkII and the 5DS-R have the same pixel-density, so they have the exact same "reach" even though one is crop-sensor and one is full-frame. A crop sensor only uses part of the image circle of a lens designed for full-frame, so that's exactly the same as cropping in RAW conversion.

I travel quite a lot for work.

On long trips: I'll generally bring a tripod, 2 lenses that let me span a good range of focal length (10mm to 135mm for me), and the nifty-fifty.
On short trips: I'll bring 1-2 lenses and a mini tripod.

My go-to lens has always been the EF-S 10-18mm IS STM. But that's because I mostly shoot cityscapes.
