You've given me a whole new way to think through a laundry room and as an exercise I'm building one for my friend next week. never have you cursed me Lups...only nice things from what i remember and you've always "appreciated" some of the things i would post lol looking forward to your laundry room build for your friend. i'm guessing you've got some kind of carpentry skills like hammer and nails i will say make sure you use a couple of solid plywood sheets for the base. i think the OSB is too flexible so adding the 2nd sheet kept everything stable cause when the washer would go into spin cyle it shook like crazy! keep me posted of if you have any question PM me...good luck girl!

I showed the pic you posted to my besties and a shit show has followed. I had never thought of that women liked laundry rooms. You get all the credit, I get to do all the free labor (since my friends never do anything to help me at all. they make me do their projects while they only push paper for me when ever I need a doctor or a lawyer...) and even if they didn't help me, I've seen those guys around tools to know it is a humanitarian aide project when I don't let them use any.

The small ideas we share here are more important than the bigger ones. No plywood will be used (we don't use that in Europe) but I did build a solid gage from steel and now all I have to do next week is the draining and intake and the decor.

My friend has five kids, so they do a ton of laundry. Their whole family is laundry orientated. I'm just lifting the machines enough to have three drawers under them and hooking up the machines.

You're a god for us northerners right now.

And don't say shit like that, my image as a bitch has to be preserved.

Lol, I'm on day ten on stalling and trying to figure out a way out of buying a house, my mean kids make endlessly fun of me, I've used every excuse I could think of and Merriam Webster probably is adding me as a description of a bitch soon to its pages. That's how far I've gone not to have a garage again.

If I ever see a decorative pillow in my home it'll be used for knife throwing training and I have so many fucking pillows I have enough material to become really good!

I haven't even told you about all the stupid old boards and stuff I've collect over the years to build something from and fuck if the thought of my antique collection doesn't scare the fuck out of me.

The thought of having a garage and my tools within my reach again makes me cry. A hamster like I should never be given the opportunity to have and space at all. It'll be a disaster.

haha! sounds like you have a lot of $hit and it's taking up your friend's garage you sure you're not a pack rat or a hoarder? i've been able to keep my crap down to a minimum. Springtime I usually go through stuff in the garage and if it's still there and i'm not using it or i think i may use it it immediately goes into the trash bin at work! i use to hold on stuff cause i always felt i could use it. but it got out of hand especially when i moved across the country. anyways, it's called life and we're all in this together lol

Glad I'm not the only one.

I've done this project f*ckin twice and both times the chipping and peeling started soon thereafter. Water gets trapped underneath, forms more bubbles, and causes more peeling. It just looks terrible.

It's even worse!

I love old stuff, stuff nobody sees any value in and then I find a way to give it a new life. I've done bathroom sink thingies from old sewing machines, reused old tables as book cases, I took apart an old barn just to get the old wood in storage since I absolutely one day will need hundreds of meters of half rotten boards, old doors give me a boner (weird, but what can I do), old windows and I have an affair longer than my door thing has gone on...

And then there is my new tradition of enjoying a funeral or few per year these days. My family keeps dying on me, and everyone has a summer home, and a barn or two filled with stuff. My lovely relatives are happy to destroy the things I love, they see no value with a maid's old cloth trunk (my coffee table!) or a bed given as a gift to my great, great aunt when she was born from the farm hands over a hundred years ago so this situation has escalated over the years, especially when we weren't here because my lovely relatives just stored everything they didn't want in to my pile and that's the stuff I have issues with! I don't like having stuff in my home, I want empty floors and as little furniture as I can get away with and I'm very, veeeery particular about those I have to look at.

Before we moved to the states we had two houses here (yup, two garages that never saw a car), when we moved away i sold those and stuffed all my precious crap to two rented storages, i filled my mom's basement with my antique furniture, our summer home got a new shed for my tools, my aunt's barn she had no use for is stuffed with my precious collection collection of materials and the future decorative items now known as 19th century tools.

It's -20c here so I use my friend's garage for prep work for their laundry room. He already had half of my tools there he lent four years ago when he decided to fix it by himself (that's four years without a garage for him). His wife still wonders why she had to become a victim of a middle age crisis since it is a well established fact my friends should never be allowed to hold a hammer. If I'm stuck buying a house soon, I need those tools back so I have to go do his project.

Anyway, I'm going to become a serial arsonist with a vendetta towards dining room sets soon. I'd feel guilty if I sold them or gave them away, so I'm going to pretend they were victims of accidents I didn't cause. Yet an other proud moment for me.

I had briefly contemplated going the tile route if only for the "look". Alas... "Real world usage, longevity and maintenance" (along with research) caused me NOT to do it. I am VERY happy with the look and appearance and durability (friend has had epoxy for years) of my floor.
In fact... Perfect example touching on P1's above statement: It has been raining big time here in N TX! I'm talking torrential downpours for 2 weeks straight! It has finally let up. But, pulling a soaking wet car into your garage, you WILL get plenty of residual water dripping off. I'd venture to say with 2 vehicles, in a weeks time: a gallon or so. Not to mention: road grime, oil and dirt. So my garage was filthy (to me at least). I broke out the mop this weekend and spent a @ 30min mopping it up. All that shit came off effortlessly! And it now looks like new once again. This in itself is worth it.

This is exactly what happened to me with a previous garage. First, the amount of prep work took a ridiculous amount of time due to the number and severity of the oil stains left by the previous homeowners. This of course won't be a problem for those with new builds.

Once all of the cleaning and prep work were done, the epoxy applied easily and looked fantastic. I used one of the epoxy kits with the decorative paint chips you can find at your local home improvement store. Over time however, it did start peeling from hot tire pick up. When I originally did the coating, I passed on the optional clear coating which was an additional purchase that you could apply on top of the epoxy. I do wonder if that would have helped seal the epoxy and prevented the pealing.

I haven't gotten around to coating my current garage floor, and if I do it again, I may not go the same route. I may just go with a clear coating this time around.

I went through this 2 years ago. Went with Race Deck Freeflow and havent looked back. Major plus with Freeflow is I can wash my car inside the garage and the water goes into the channels under the tracks and flows out of the garage - awesome feature in the winter or the rain.
