Wish i had more time in the museum

You guys in Germany/Europe have it good.

Non BMW content:

We stopped by for lunch at Restaurant 'Christophorus' @ Porsche Museum but because it was a BMW paid trip, we only had a few minutes to snoop around, grabbing what we can from the shop on the way out.

There be some diecasts... i bought the 1:43 BOSS 924. Was hoping to find 944s but non in sight.

The 1:18s were made by Welly and are not really great on detail, so i didn't pick them up even though the boxes were cool.

1:43s were all pretty good quality, and the prices reflected that. Still, i HAD to at least buy 1...

I didn't have much time to ponder, so i grabbed the 924. No regrets, i think it looks great.

There were lots of period posters too. At 9.90 euros a piece, i think they were pretty reasonably priced! At least better than what i encounter on Ebay.

Didn't have time to browse through all the quality literature.

A heavy sculpture on every table at the restaurant. Probably heavy to prevent people from stealing them!

The only 944 i saw. This was at the lobby.

Stuck my head out of the car to take these on the way out.

My tip when visiting the P-Museum... is also to walk across the street into the factory dealership. Inside is another small gift shop where Porsche-Design stuff is sold. They also sell some model cars here... so sometimes you can find something cool-er. Also take a look at some of the cool cars for sale there. You never know what you will find.

The original Porsche Carrera GT is one of my favorite Porsches. I was thrilled to see the one at the Porsche Museum during our 2011 Euro Delivery. Then we walked across the street to the dealership and there were three of them for sale!

Yes, I have also seen a few C-GT's up for sale there.

My best memory was back in 2001 walking up the street to the original Porsche HQ, Werk-I... to order some parts directly from Porsche AG... out back is where Porsche's "Special Wishes" and their VIP customer service is also located. I popped my head into the small courtyard to see seven 959's being worked on. To my shock, five of those cars had USA plates. As in they were registered in the USA. Now THAT was quite a cool sight.

I remember driving through Freiburg on one of my EDs in 2005, and noticed a used BMW dealer that had 4 M1s and about a dozen Z1s for sale. That was quite a sight...

The Porsche museum is not to be missed. I found it much more interesting than the BMW museum (and I've been a BMW fan since 1971). It's been 7 years ago now since I went, but I do recall my son and I getting hung up at the 917 disassembled engine display for a long time (two engineers discussing every aspect of it). I also recall there being a number of 924 and 944 cars in the museum on display.

The Porsche factory tour was also not to be missed while there.

Thanks for your pictures in the link above from the BMW museum. It appears only a few things have changed since 2010. I assume they still have the "large sedan" room that starts with the E3 and goes up through the E38 (as of 2010 anyway). I asked one of the museum staff if it was okay to take as many pictures, including under the car, of the E3 as I desired, and she looked at me quizzically (likely assessing my mental stability) and then said sure, it's fine. The E3 was in amazing new condition, and having owned one for so many years, I had to spend time photographing it including laying on the floor as needed. She later told my wife nobody has ever done that before. Needless to say, I have hundreds of pics of early BMWs (70s and 80s) from the museum.

Nope. That "large sedan" room is now displaying BMW 3er's from past generations.

Yeah... the Döttinger Höhe gas station is a MUST see place. It's kind of everything in one place: gas station, restaurant, 'Ring gift shop and model toys for big boys.

Around back(to the left) is the little hotel and media registration point - along with the little "imbiss" snack hut. A lot of car spotters hang out - in the parking lot. The test cars(Zebras) tank here on purpose when the car manufacturers need some good buzz/press vibes for an upcoming model.
