Lightbulb BEER MATH

YOUR AGE BY BEER MATH

It takes less than a minute .
Work this out as you read ...
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have beer
(more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just for good measure)

3. Add 5

4. Multiply it by 50 -- (get a calculator if needed)

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1755 ....
If you haven't, add 1754.

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number

The first digit of this was your original number
(i.e., how many times you want to have beer each week).

The next two numbers are

YOUR AGE!

I'm a mathematician, and it was still off by 1 for me. Looking back, I think the interpretation for #5 could be a problem. I have not had my birthday in 2006 yet, so I added 1754. It made me one year younger.

It's one year off.

I got 322 after going through it all and was like "That's frickn' great! What a cool math trick!" But then I realized I am 23 years old, not 22. I'm so stupid!!.... or in denial of getting older.

Wow! Its magic and yes it works only for 2005. Yet, still a cool game.

How it works

So I assume the mathematician already figured this one out.

To adjust for 2006, you need to change the 1754 to 1755 or 1756 depending upon whether or not you had your birthday. The big mystery?

I have modified my explanation so the thing will work...

Essentially the game sets you up to multiply your beer desire number by 100, placing it safely two places above your age. Then you have been asked to add your age. Certainly you can see that
1756 + 250 = 2006, coincidence, I think not.

The equation is y= 1756 + (2x+5)(50)-(2006-age).
This may be reduced to y = 100x +age. where x is how many times you wanted to drink beer a week.

Naturally, if you're over 100 years old, this whole thing doesn't work, but then you probably don't like computers, either...so you wouldn't have seen it.

Now that I've done this stuff, it's time for .....BEER!
